Urban Ministry Minor

Do your career plans involve working with people in the opportunities and the chaos that can be found in today's cities?

Whether you’re pursuing a major in ministry or in an unrelated topic, a minor in Urban Ministry will help you develop the knowledge and experience to serve others in an urban context. The Urban Ministry minor also provides a strong addition to majors in behavioral science such as sociology, psychology and criminal justice.

MidAmerica’s location near Kansas City means that Urban Ministry minors can learn hands-on.
You might volunteer or intern at one of the many service agencies we partner with in Kansas City:

  • Advice & Aid Pregnancy Center
  • Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center
  • Kansas City Urban Youth Center
  • Women’s Clinic of Kansas City, and others

The minor in Urban Ministry is fulfilled mainly by an internship at the Bresee Institute in Kansas City. The Bresee Institute is dedicated to advancing urban ministry through seminars, workshops and consulting. Participants learn how to deal with challenges in urban ministry, navigate multicultural issues, and develop effective approaches to troubled situations. Additional credit for the minor is filled by a class in Evangelism and Church Growth, and one approved elective of your choice.
