This major prepares you to instruct students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Pre-service teachings in this program get training and hands-on learning from field-based experiences in reading, mathematics, science, English and language arts, social studies, physical education and fine arts at elementary level.

Math is one of the basic skills that kids must master – it’s a core competency for productive adults, but it’s also the foundation for careers in science and technology. Ensuring that talented individuals have the skills needed to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math is a top priority for educators and policymakers alike.
As a music teacher, you’ll be able to share a wonderful gift with your students; the ability to perform and appreciate music will provide rewarding experiences for the rest of their lives. Many Physical Education majors become P.E. teachers. But physical education isn’t confined to gym class. With a background in physical education, you could also become an athletic instructor, a fitness coach or a recreation manager.
As a speech and theatre teacher, you’ll have a unique opportunity to help young people express their ideas, explore their emotions and communicate more effectively. Speech teachers work in public and private schools, private practice, corporate settings, intervention programs and more. They might work with children, teenagers or adults, individuals with speech disorders or impediments, or those who simply want to express themselves more clearly.
