Department of Fine & Performing Arts

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Our rapidly changing world creates many workplace and societal challenges. Students in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences are empowered with a broad base of knowledge that promotes excellence in their chosen career. Graduates are employed in fields such as medicine, education, counseling, media and performing arts.

Mission Statement

To enrich all students by offering intellectually rigorous programs that foster creativity and promote aesthetic literacy.

AUDITIONS

All students who wish to major in music must audition for admission to the department as well as for scholarships. You should plan to bring two contrasting pieces with you to your audition. For vocalists, if possible, one should be in a foreign language. For instrumentalists and pianists, your second piece may be a technical study. We recommend that the standard of the repertoire you perform be like what you would take to District or State music contests.

Humanities

You can expect to be asked to do some sight-reading, and may be asked to do scales and/or arpeggios as appropriate. Note: No recorded accompaniment. You are welcome to provide your own accompanist, or we will provide one for a $15.00 fee. This fee includes a brief rehearsal before your audition.

To schedule your audition, please contact the Department of Fine and Performing Arts coordinator:

Bell Cultural Events Center

The Fine Arts Department is located in our newest facility, the Bell Cultural Events Center on the north side of campus. The 40,000 square foot Bell Center, is an acoustically-engineered masterpiece, it has the most up-to-date technology for teaching, recording, and playback for students and teachers to use in classrooms, private lessons, rehearsals, and performances. The Black Box theatre, scene shop, Green Room, make-up room, and dressing rooms have expanded the abilities of the MNU Theatre Department for both training and performance.

Plan now to attend the spring musical! Contact the Bell Cultural Events Center Box Office for ticket information.
