If you enjoy reading and writing, consider majoring in English. Studying English is a wonderful way to experience great works of literature and learn more about culture and history. Why MNU?

The English program at MNU integrates faith and academics, helping students explore their own values as they encounter great works of literature. All majors take a course in Faith and Literature. Seamlessly connecting literature, communication, culture and Christianity is a foundational part of the curriculum.

As an English student, one of your top priorities is learning to write effectively. MNU’s campus publications offer you plenty of opportunities to develop your writing skills; students can write for the school newspaper or yearbook. Or, volunteer and gain hands-on editorial experience with the department’s literary publication, Bluestem. The magazine also provides a venue for students to publish their creative stories, essays and poems.

Study abroad provides a rewarding way to experience another culture and language as you learn more about your own. Through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, students have plenty of opportunity to travel in diverse locations such as Thailand, Mexico, Honduras, Ecuador, Germany, Switzerland, China, Australia and more.

The official student newspaper of MidAmerican University is published both online and in-print, written and edited by students.

Conestoga

MNU’s student yearbook offers another avenue for participation. Students manage the publication from start to finish, including writing, editing, photography and production.

Bluestem

Whether you prefer to submit your creative writing pieces or volunteer on the editorial staff, MNU’s literary publication provides an exciting outlet for campus literary talent.

Our graduates and alumni are now English teachers throughout Kansas (and further afield – one alum found her dream job teaching in Alaska). Others are employed as journalists – such as Josh Jakobitz, employed by The Global Ministry Center, and serves as advisor to journalism students at MNU. Other alumni have pursued graduate school, seminary school and more.
