The mission of the School of Nursing and Health Science at MidAmerica Nazarene University is "to educate and inspire servant leaders for the ministry of professional nursing." That is, we want to educate students who have a heart for serving others through the ministry of nursing. We hope these pages will provide you with more information about our program. Interesting Facts about the TBSN Program:
- Take required nursing courses in your freshman/sophomore years along with other prerequisite courses
- Practice hands-on skills in a nursing skills lab
- Experience a full spectrum of nursing courses: pediatrics to gerontology and wellness to critical care
- Participate in clinical experiences two days per week in area hospitals and community sites
- Practice advanced critical-thinking skills using human patient simulators in the "safe" setting of a Simulation Studio
- Prepare to provide bio-psycho-social-spiritual nursing care
- Select an elective ‘special topics in nursing’ course in your senior year … even an international nursing opportunity
- Financial aid is available
- 2011 traditional program graduates had an NCLEX-RN® pass rate of 93%
- Approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing
- Nationally accredited by CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education)
Eligibility requirements:
Expedited admission of high achieving, first time freshmen is available.
Regular application to the upper-level major is competitive and done as a freshman or sophomore.
- A minimum GPA of 2.60 on a 0-4.00 scale, but students with significantly higher GPAs and those with high grades in the sciences are better positioned for admission. The GPA is calculated in one of two ways:
- A cumulative GPA, and
- A GPA calculated using grades in program prerequisites
- English Language Requirements: All applicants to the MNU nursing major whose native language is not English must demonstrate an established level of English language proficiency through the TOEFL iBT exam.TOEFL (iBT) scores are required as follows:
- Overall score of 80 (minimum), and
- All sub-scores (Writing, Speaking, Reading, Listening) of 20 (minimum).
- Acceptable scores on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS-V). Offered at MNU in September.
