ChemistryBachelor of Arts
As a chemistry student, you’ll investigate topics such as molecular shape and structure, liquid and solid behavior, thermodynamics, acid/base chemistry, electrochemistry and chemical kinetics, organic compounds, quantitative analysis, forensic chemistry, physical chemistry, instrumental analysis, polymer chemistry, biochemistry, and more. The curriculum, which follows the standards of the American Chemical Society, provides an excellent background for graduate study or medical schools, and equips students for productive careers in industry, government or education. Why MNU?At MNU, we view the universe as a created system with predictable order. Our study of the natural world connects seamlessly to “big picture” questions and ideas about our purpose and calling in this world. High-tech chemistry labs are equipped with leading-edge instruments and equipment, including a gas chromatograph, high performance liquid chromatograph, and nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, ultraviolet and atomic absorption spectrometers – the same facilities found in high-level government and industrial labs. Small lab sizes ensure that each student has plenty of opportunity to conduct hands-on experiments and gain experience with lab technology and techniques - beginning in your freshman year! Small class sizes mean that students receive high-quality attention and expert guidance from dedicated professors. Classes are taught by faculty members, not graduate students. In addition, our program follows the American Chemical Society guidelines for a certified chemistry major - which means you are getting the best education available with one-on-one attention from the faculty. Beginning in their junior year, each chemistry student participates in our challenging research program, expanding their knowledge of scientific practice and making them more competitive candidates for graduate school or future careers. Awards, Scholarships & Financial AidA number of scholarships and awards are available to chemistry students.Charles K. Morrow Memorial Scholarship
InternshipsPre-med students spend time “shadowing” working physicians or interning in medical offices, where they can get a firsthand look at day-to-day activities in the healthcare professions. Plus, our students participate in directed summer research programs at major institutions, including:
CareersAs a chemistry graduate, you’ll have a number of career paths available. Some require additional graduate study, but there are still many positions open to candidates with a bachelor’s degree. Your job options include:
AlumniOur graduates have a more than 90 percent acceptance rate to top graduate, medical and professional schools, such as:
Many alumni are now practicing physicians such as renowned thoracic surgeon Charles Sciolaro. Need more info?
