Criminal Justice

The purpose of the Criminal Justice program is to provide the student with a system orientation to the field of criminal justice. Studies involve the principles of criminal justice and the related problems and issues in the field. Students develop a knowledge base for an in-depth understanding of human behavior and the kinds of problems and circumstances that often result in criminality.

Field-based experience

Part of the modern criminal justice program repertoire is the increased effort to integrate traditional academic preparation with field-based education. MidAmerica's criminal justice major requires a two-semester internship experience. College faculty have built excellent relationships with several agencies which will serve as internship sites such as law enforcement, probation, parole, corrections, and law-related offices on the federal, state and local levels. The internship experiences allow the application of theory and research.

Participating in Criminal Justice Club activities also provides an opportunity to explore academic and real-life experiences.
