Sheila Bird ('79)

Council Member

Sheila is a 3 time MNU graduate: 1979 - Psychology, 2004 - MBA, 2005 - MAOA Non-Profit. After working for the Nazarene Foundation for several years, she accepted a position as Director of Planned Giving for Sterling College, in Sterling, KS, in 2013. Her role there involves visiting alumni and friends to solicit and secure transformational estate gifts for the college. Sheila also oversee the creation and implementation of all endowed and annual scholarships funded by donors.

Sheila has been married to her pastor husband, Don, since 1977 and is the mother to four grown children: Justin, Jeremy (married to Christin), Jessica, and Julie (married to Brenton); Grandma to 2 grandsons: Matthew and Levi. Her passions include: Touch for Health, coming home to a yard blooming with color, her children and grandchildren, vintage shopping, as well as helping people be transformed by the gift of giving to leave an eternal legacy.  “I’m so grateful for God’s grace in my life and his leading every day to be everything he created me to be.”

Josh Dampf

Josh Dampf ('11)

Council Member

Josh graduated from MNU in 2011 with a Bachelors degree in Youth and Family Ministry. While a student at MNU, Josh was deeply involved in Student Government.  He has recently been hired to plan and coordinate the Nazarene Student Leadership Conference, which will take place at MNU in 2013. Josh is currently a student at Nazarene Theological Seminary where he is studying to get his Masters in Christian Formation and Discipleship. He is currently working as a High School Co-Pastor at College Church of the Nazarene.


Kevin Garber ('89)

Director of Alumni Relations

Kevin is the Director of Alumni Relations at MidAmerica Nazarene University where he has served since 2010. Kevin has a degree in Business Administration from MNU where he graduated in 1989.  Kevin spent twenty years in sales and small business management before his return to the Office of University Advancement.  Kevin is married to Shawna (Gafford, '95) Garber.  Kevin and Shawna have two sons, Matthew, and Michael.

Karen Garber Miller

Karen Garber-Miller ('89)

Council Member

Karen got her undergraduate degree in English Education at MNU, her master's degree in English Education at SNU and her Ph.D. in language and literacy at UMKC.  Karen is the Dean of the School of Education at Avila University.  Along with preparing future teachers, Karen enjoys participating in international education and child development projects around the world.  She and her husband Cort both developed interests in cross cultural ministries and service to vulnerable populations while attending MNU.

Josh Hankey

Josh Hankey ('06)

Council Member

Josh is the Director of Bands at Santa Fe Trail Middle School for the Olathe School District.  He was deeply involved in music ministry and campus activities while at MNU.  He says, "The events that I was involved with impacted me in ways that cannot be explained with words."  Josh is married to Dawn (Ellis, '09) Hankey.

Jill Kenney

Council Member

Jill Kenney graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2001. Prior to earning her Juris Doctrate degree, Jill graduated magna cum laude from MidAmerica Nazarene University with B.A. in history and English in 1998.  In 2011, Jill founded the Kenney Law Firm. This latest venture has allowed her to fully realize her passion for helping people at all levels of litigation and protection.  Jill has stayed active in the MNU community including serving on MNU's Board of Trustees and Alumni Council.


Ashley Liddle ('12)

Council Member

Ashley graduated from MNU with her BSN in 2012. While a student at MNU, she ran on the cross country and track teams and served as an R.A. in the dorms. She is currently a Registered Nurse in the NICU at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.


Kevin Liddle ('12)

Council Member

Kevin graduated from MNU in 2012 with a B.A. in Organizational Leadership with emphasis in Business. While attending MNU as a student, he was a four-year starter on the baseball team and served as an R.A. in the dorms for 2 years. He now serves at Living Hope Church of the Nazarene in Olathe as the youth pastor and the BRIDGES Sports Executive Director. Kevin is married to Ashley (Mackey) Liddle and they have a son, Carter, and a big, black lab named Ace.

Andrew Speicher ('98)

Council Member

Drew is a civil trial attorney and one of the founding members of the law firm of Morefield Speicher Bachman, LC.  Based in Overland Park, Kansas, Drew and his partners focus on representing Kansas and Missouri individuals and businesses facing issues involving personal injury, wrongful death, business law, construction law, and workers compensation.  Drew graduated Magna Cum Laude from MNU with his B.A. in both History and Business Administration in 1998, and then went on to graduate With Honors from Drake University School of Law in 2000.  Drew is actively involved with Living Hope Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, where he serves as a church trustee and board member, volunteers with the youth and children, and plays guitar and sings with the worship band.  Drew and his wife, Jill (Wilkinson), have a daughter, Hadley age 10, and a son, Truett age 7.  Drew and Jill also serve together on the leadership team for the BRIDGES community sports program in Olathe, Kansas.


Jill Speicher ('96)

Council Member

Jill graduated from Magna Cum Laude from MNU in 1996 with a B.A. in both English and Spanish, plus a minor in Chemistry. While at MNU she was very active in residential life serving as an R.A. for three years and working for Student Development. She went on to complete her doctorate of veterinary medicine at Iowa State University in 2000. After more than a decade working as an emergency veterinarian in Overland Park, KS with BluePearl Specialty & Emergency Medicine for Pets, she has transitioned to management as the inaugural Director of Technician Training and Development.

Cheryl Stevens

Cheryl Stevens ('72)

Council Member

Cheryl taught full time at MNU and taught as an adjunct for ONU and NBC.  She has ministered in the Church of the Nazarene alongside her husband on the local, district and global level for 36 years.  Cheryl graduated in the first class from MNU, taught there during the early years and has believed in and supported MNU's mission since its inception.  Cheryl is married to Woodie ('73) and has two children, Michelle and Geoff ('02).  She also has six grandchildren: Josh, Kylee, Katie, Beckett, Kaylen and Rowen.


Adam Utz ('03)

Council Member


Adam graduated from MNU in 2003 with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.  While a student at MNU, Adam was a member of the men's basketball team that finished National Runner-Up in 2001.  During his playing career, the men's team qualified for the National Tournament each year and were HAAC regular season champs in 2003 and HACC tournament Champs in 2001 & 2003.  Adam was selected to the all-conference team 3 years, was named a NAIA All-American, and MNU male Athlete of the year in 2003.  Adam was also a member of the 2003 HAAC Football Championship team. He was inducted into the MNU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. Adam currenlty resides in Olathe, KS. and works for Enterprise Fleet Management.  He has three daughters, Harper 7, Sidney, 6 and Korbin 4.

Joe is a recent graduate of MNU ('12) where he received his B.A. in History. While at MNU, he was deeply involved with campus activities, but especially with Associated Student Government.
