Dr. Carla Jill (Mullins) Stein ('77)
Alumna of the Year
Dr. Carla Jill (Mullins) Stein (’77) has served as the National Director of the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Program and three other officer accession programs for the Navy and Marine Corps since 2001. With more than 29 years of federal service, she is recognized as a woman of faith, leading men and women, directing nationwide programs and budgets, and, negotiating new initiatives. Dr. Stein is married to Captain John H. Stein, Jr. In March 2011, Dr. Stein and her husband, John, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Pensacola First Church of the Nazarene, where Dr. Stein has attended and served since 1982.
Randall Stephens ('95)
Alumnus of the Year
Randall Stephens (’95) graduated with a BA in history. He is an associate professor of history and chair of the history department at Eastern Nazarene College, in Quincy, MA. In 2003 he received his PhD in history from the University of Florida. Stephens is editor of the history magazine Historically Speaking, and associate editor of the journal Fides et Historia. In 2008 Harvard University Press published his first book The Fire Spreads: Holiness and Pentecostalism in the American South. Stephens has another book coming in 2011. Stephens was named a Top Young Historian by the History News Network.
Gary Bustin ('01)
Carry the Torch Award
Gary Bustin (’01), President of Samaritan Aviation, was born in Goroka, Papua New Guinea and has a missionary family history in PNG dating back to the 1940’s. At the age of twelve, Gary moved with his family from Papua New Guinea to the United States where he completed his education. Mr. Bustin received his Bachelor of Arts degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University and his pilot training at Flight Training International. All the while, Mr. Bustin’s deeply developed love for the people of PNG inspired a life of service and the organization of Samaritan Aviation. Samaritan Aviation currently operates PNG’s only float plane and provides emergency medical services to remote villages.
Quinn Carr ('07)
Young Alumnus of the Year
Quinn Carr (’07) owns carrdiac+design, a freelance graphic design and social media marketing studio. His latest endeavors have partnered him with alumnus Josh Veach (’08) at Strategic Salt, a strategic planning firm that teams up with churches, non-profit organizations and small businesses to help them become more effective communicators through conventional design and marketing outlets. He also serves as the Marketing Director at Arrowhead Forensics. Countless hours behind the computer mouse has led him to design for organizations both nationally and globally.

Carry the Torch Award
This award recipient is not required to be an MNU alumni. We base this award on the humanitarian contributions to MNU, their church, and their community. We recognize these people as "CARRYING THE TORCH FOR MNU" by supporting and promoting what we are as a Christian Higher Education Institution.
Alumna of the Year Award
Female chosen for outstanding achievements not only in their careers but for their contribution and service to the university, church, or in their local community.
Alumnus of the Year Award
Male chosen for outstanding achievements not only in their careers but for their contribution and service to the university, church, or in their local community.
Young Alumni Award
This award is presented to a recent graduate who has demonstrated early success in their first five years since graduation as a traditional student. Award winner may be either male or female.
