Susan Larson, Ph.D, R.N. ('84)

Susan Larson, Ph.D., R.N. (‘84) is the interim dean for the School of Nursing and Health Science at MNU, where she has been on the faculty since 1989. Earning a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in 1989 and a Ph.D., in 2002 from the University of Kansas, Larson’s leadership spawned MNU’s ex­pansion into several BSN programs designed for working adults as well as the MSN.

The university awarded her Faculty Member of the Year in 2008 and she was selected as a Fellow in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Leadership for Academic Nursing Programs in 2009.


Clifton Pemble ('86)

Clifton Pemble (‘86) is president and chief operating officer of Garmin International. Pemble is one of the aviation and GPS giant’s first employees, and has served in a variety of leadership capacities including systems engineering and software engineering management since 1989. He directs day-to-day operations of all North American Garmin subsidiaries, including Garmin International, Inc., and is also a member of the Garmin Ltd. Board of Directors.


David Sapp ('98)

David Sapp (‘98) is retired from a 37-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration. A skilled lighting technician volunteer for Olathe College Church of the Nazarene, Sapp offered to help MNU in 2007 with lighting at Bell Cultural Events Center. Putting in hundreds of unpaid hours, he continues to design and implement lighting and build theatrical carpentry projects for MNU.


A. Micah Smith ('05)

A. Micah Smith (‘05) owns My Associate Cornelius, a design & illustration business. Beginning as an after-hours creative outlet, the firm has blossomed into a nationally recognized graphic design studio and is a staple in the independent rock music poster scene. Smith’s clients include MySpace, Sony BMG, Newsweek, Columbia Records, Atlantic Records, Warner Bros., and Heinz.


Dr. Otto W. Theel

Otto W. Theel, M.D., organized MNU’s Honorary Alumni Association in 1969 and later that year was honored by the university with the Layman of the Year Award. A physician at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City for 42 years, Dr. Theel served on the MNU Board of Trustees and is cur­rently a member of the MNU Foundation Board Directors.

Carry the Torch Award

This award recipient is not required to be an MNU alumni. We base this award on the humanitarian contributions to MNU, their church, and their community. We recognize these people as "CARRYING THE TORCH FOR MNU" by supporting and promoting what we are as a Christian Higher Education Institution.

Alumna of the Year Award

Female chosen for outstanding achievements not only in their careers but for their contribution and service to the university, church, or in their local community.

Alumnus of the Year Award

Male chosen for outstanding achievements not only in their careers but for their contribution and service to the university, church, or in their local community.

Young Alumni Award

This award is presented to a recent graduate who has demonstrated early success in their first five years since graduation as a traditional student. Award winner may be either male or female.
