Dr. Garber-Miller specializes in literacy and the language arts.

 

 


She typically teaches a variety of reading, language arts, ESL, and methods courses. She is a certified teacher in Kansas and Missouri. In recent years she has taught and participated in international education projects and research in Armenia, Botswana, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, Hungary, Mexico, Myanmar, Philippines, Russia, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Thailand, Ukraine, and Zambia. She often presents for the International Reading Association and the National Council of the Teachers of English as well as consults and provides professional development for K-12 school districts. She serves on the board for the Kansas City Urban Youth Center and the Greater Kansas City Sudanese Lost Boys Foundation. Dr. Garber-Miller chairs the Teacher Education Department, advises education students, supervises clinical experiences and student teachers, and leads the unit’s accreditation efforts.
