Dr. McVicker currently teaches undergraduate reading methods and assessment courses as well as the children’s literature and arts for elementary classrooms.
She partners with the Kansas City Urban Youth Center to provide a service-learning facet for her assessment of reading course. MNU students tutor children in their after school programs. She is also a faculty member for the Graduate Studies in Education Department, teaching Action Research I and II. As director of the yearly MNU Summer Literacy Institute, she plans for an author-in-residence institute for the professional development of classroom teachers. Current research studies are titled, Reader Response and the Preschool Child and “The Liverpool Project: A Comparison of U.S. & U.K. Literacy Practices.”
