Approved Courses for Global Certificate

To Qualify:

To qualify f or MNU Go Global certification, a student must complete component A,
and either component B or C.

Component A. EXPANSION: Academic Component
To fulfill the academic component, students must:

1. Complete the foreign language requirement by either:

  • Taking a minimum of one year or two semesters of college level study (or its equivalent as determined by the modern language department) in the same modern foreign language with the grade of C or better; OR
  • Meeting the University requirements of English proficiency for international students.

2. Take three courses with a significant modern international focus selected from a list of suggested courses with the grade of C or better. This list includes upper as well as lower level courses. (For international students, at least one of these three courses must have a significant modern U.S. focus.)

Component B. IMMERSION: International Academic Experience
Students may earn credit for international academic experience by:

  • Participating in an approved study abroad program with foreign language instruction or an internship, practicum, research project, or volunteer activity abroad for which they earn MNU credit; OR
  • Participating in a study abroad program in an English-speaking country other than the United States, or in a program in a non-English speaking country in which the language of instruction is English, and completing the foreign language requirement; OR
  • Enrolling at MNU as an international student.

Component C. CONNECTION: Co-Curricular Activities
This component requires significant involvement (a minimum of 60 units) in co-curricular or service-oriented activities that have an international focus. Students may choose from a list of such activities sponsored by MNUclubs and organizations or academic divisions. Most students participate in more than one activity.
