Guide to Study Abroad
The Center for Global Studies at MidAmerica Nazarene University can help students participate in programs in every region of the world. Students also go to new countries and new programs every year.
These programs fall into three categories:
* MNU Sponsored Programs * Affiliated Programs * Accredited Programs
Affiliated programs are sponsored through universities and agencies that have a formal relationship with MNU. Accredited programs are those sponsored by accredited United States colleges and universities. In both affiliated and accredited programs, credits are usually earned in another university and transferred to MNU. While it would be impossible to list all of the programs open to students, many are given here as examples.
In addition to the variety of programs listed by region in the menu to the left of this screen, you can easily search for programs using the following study abroad search engines:

Please note that all study abroad programs must be approved by the MNU Center for Global Studies office.

Programs
In addition to the wide variety of MNU approved programs offered by third party providers and universities around the world, we are proud to offer programs each semester and summer session that are organized, taught, and led by members of our very own faculty. These programs offer students the opportunity to study in new and exciting areas of the globe with the benefit of on-site faculty with years of international experience. Because these academic programs typically consist of 5-20 MNU students, these programs also provide for their participants an environment of Christian community while abroad.

Ten Steps to Study Abroad
Getting international experience at MNU is easy. Here’s all you have to do.
1. Visit the Center for Global Studies and Service Learning to learn about all the options that are available. You can talk with Lorie Beckum, the Center’s director, about your interests, and she’ll provide you with information, brochures, and videos that introduce to the various programs.
2. Start narrowing your options. Define your goals for studying abroad and identify programs that suit those goals. Then sit down with your faculty advisor to discuss how study abroad will shape your other education requirements.
3. Find out about costs. A financial aid counselor will help you determine program costs and how your financial aid will apply.
4. Inform yourself. Learn about the country where you want to study. Talk with students who have lived, studied, and traveled there about their experiences.
5. Apply. You should apply to the Center for Gobal Studies and Service Learning one year before you intend to go and to your program of choice the semester before you plan to go.
Deadlines Fall, Summer, and Academic Year programs: usually March 15 Spring programs: October 15
6. See your academic advisor. Now that you know what courses you’ll be studying, your advisor can help you determine how they’ll fit with your degree requirements. Your Advisor must also sign your Application for Off-Campus Study Program.
7. Submit your application on or before the deadline to the Office of the Registrar. Be sure to obtain other approvals and necessary signatures.
8. Once you’re accepted, notify the Center for Global Studies and Service Learning and apply for your passport if you don’t already have one.
9. Orient yourself. Attend mandatory pre-departure orientations for the program and question-and-answer sessions with past participants. Read carefully all the information in your orientation packet and feel free to ask questions.
10. Pack your bags!
