The Certificate in Play Therapy at MidAmerica Nazarene University is an accelerated 12-hour post-graduate program with a dual emphasis on quality training and clinical applications. This certificate program is designed to meet most of the requirements specified by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) for the Registered Play Therapist credential. We are the only APT approved Play Therapy provider in the metro area.

MNU takes a hands-on approach to your learning experience and provides quality supervision during your clinical experience. We have a strong clinical orientation with our graduate degrees in various clinical areas of expertise. We will prepare you to be a play therapist in public or private clinical settings.
You will have the opportunity to consult with leaders in the play therapy field including Dr. Garry Landreth, Dr. Eliana Gil, Dr. Rick Gaskill, Dr. Rise VanFleet, Dr. Dee Ray and Dr. Linda Homeyer. We have a total of 11 clinical rooms in our building. Our four play therapy and sand tray rooms are equipped with state of the art video and sound for students to complete your play therapy hours. As part of our focus on the student, you will be working with a Clinical Assistant that will help you keep track of your clinical, supervision and instructional hours.
The result? You receive instruction in the best of contemporary play therapy theory blended with guided experience from true practitioners. This dual emphasis on theory and application means the student is well prepared for creating a dynamic interpersonal relationship between themselves and their clients.
*Weekends are considered Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
