Men’s Soccer Handles Oklahoma City, Continues Success

The MidAmerica men’s soccer team took on Oklahoma City University on Saturday, Sept. 19. With two goals from Tanner Hunjak and another from Cameron Wallce, the Pioneers defeated the Stars with a final score of 3-0. This brings the Pioneers record to 5-2-1 for the season. The Pioneers will begin conference play on the road against Graceland University on Tuesday, September 22 at 7:30pm.

Football Bounces Back

After starting the season with a 1-2 record, the Pioneer football team returned to their winning ways on Sept. 19 when they took down a conference competitor, Benedictine College. Quarterback Trent Hedlund threw for 162 yards, while the team totaled over 400 yards rushing. Along with a dominant offensive game, the Pioneer’s defense was strong, holding the Ravens to only 17 points, with a final score of 41-17. The Pioneers will take on Peru State College, in Peru, Neb. on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Women’s Soccer Loses Two Consecutive Games

After a very strong start to the season, the Pioneers women’s soccer team lost two games in a row this week. First, on Sept. 16, MNU lost to Kansas Wesleyan University 2-1. The windy conditions made it tough for either team to get in the swing of things, but the Pioneers ended up taking the loss. The Pioneers then took on Oklahoma City University on Saturday, Sept. 22, and lost again, this time with a final score of 4-2. Before these two losses, MNU had outscored their opponent 18-3 for the season. Up next for the women’s soccer squad is an away match, where they will face Graceland University. The match is set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

MNU Volleyball Impresses Home Crowd

The Pioneer volleyball team improved their conference record to 3-0 after dominating Grand View on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Sofija Berezovoska led all attackers with 12 kills, while Gisele Silva added 9. Conference Setter of the Week, Rachel Kater, had 31 assists. The team now holds an 11-6 record. Their next match will take place at Avila University on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7:00pm.

Pioneer Cross Country Shows Well at Cavalier Cup

On Saturday, Sept. 19, the newly resurrected cross country teams had a short drive to Johnson County Community College where they competed in the Cavalier Cup. Both teams had to overcome the wind and rain as a storm blew in just partway through the girl’s race. The girl's team took second place as a team, with Halley Dean winning first place overall, and Kaylee Shanley and Jocelynn Stillwell finishing in the top 5. The boy’s team finished second behind Butler County Community College. George Robinson finished first for the team, with Brandon Velasco, Jac Chelman, and Preston Weigel close behind. The next meet for both teams will be on Saturday, Oct. 3, when the teams will travel to Lawrence, KS to compete in the Rim Rock Farm Collegiate Classic.
