Women’s basketball

After defeating Culver-Stockton College on Jan. 27 with a final box score of 71-54, the Pioneers hosted Benedictine College on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Pioneers outscored the Ravens 21 points to 8 in the second quarter. Jasmine Webb had a game-high 18 points. Tristin Wicks finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds. All five starters (Jasmine Webb, Tristin Wicks, Megan Balcom, Kyleesha Weston, and Bailey Rinehart) had two steals each. The next game is Wednesday at Avila University at 5:30 pm.

Men’s basketball

Much like the women’s team, the men’s team took care of business at home as well as on the road this week. On Wednesday, Jan. 27, MNU traveled to play Culver-Stockton College. Despite trailing by two points going into halftime, MNU outscored the Wildcats in the second half to win with a score of 87-76. On Saturday, Jan. 30, the Pioneers won big against Benedictine College. Justin Randall lead all scorers with 14 points, as Nick Syrie added 12 points of his own along with four assists and four steals. MNU travels to Avila University on Feb. 3 to play the Eagles at 7:30 pm.

Indoor track

On Friday, Jan. 29, a group of Pioneer indoor track athletes competed at the 2016 Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kansas. Headlining this week’s squad was George Robinson, finishing second place in the 1000m run am session. Michael Lewis finished fifth place in the triple jump with a leap of 13.79m. Raiven Ellis finished in sixth place in the women’s tripe jump with a leap of 10.43m. The indoor track team will compete next when they travel to Doane College in Nebraska on Saturday, Feb. 6.
