Men’s basketball

On Feb. 24, head coach Rocky Lamar and the Pioneers had the chance to earn the 700th victory of Lamar’s time at MNU. Following a poor shooting night from the 3-point line, the Pioneers fell to Evangel 83-59. However, on Feb. 27, the Pioneers earned the 700th victory for the home crowd against Grand View University. The victory also earned MNU the regular season Heart of America Athletic Conference title. Nick Syrie scored 19 points, while Jordan Whelan, Jonas Page, and Justin Jamison each added 12. Rocky Lamar earned Coach of the Year in the Heart, while Nick Syrie (first team), Justin Randall (first team), Gabriel Jordan (honorable mention), Jonas Page (honorable mention) and Jordan Whelan (honorable mention) earned All-Conference honors.

Women’s basketball

The MNU women’s basketball team earned two more victories this week, starting with Evangel University on Feb. 24. Nathalie Felipe scored 16 points in that game, leading scorers with valuable minutes off the bench. On Feb. 27, the Pioneers defeated Grand View University with by an easy 26 points. The senior girls each represented well in their last regular season home game, with Jasmine Webb leading the way with 18 points, Megan Balcom adding 15, Nathalie Felipe adding 12, and Kyleesha Weston adding 14. MNU finishes the regular season in second place in the Heart. Megan Balcom (first team), Jasmine Webb (first team), Kyleesha Weston (honorable mention), Tristin Wicks (honorable mention) and Nathalie Felipe (honorable mention) earned All-Conference honors for the season.

Baseball

After a dominant performance against the University of Houston-Victoria on Feb. 26, MNU lost their first game of the season to Wayland Baptist University. Christian Quinones, Logan Tills, Jordan Eckley, Kelvin Perez, Jason Jones, and Jeremie Gonzalez each had multi-hit games for the day. MNU was back to their winning ways on Feb. 27, beating the University of Houston-Victoria 19-6, bringing the team's record to 10-1.

Softball

The season started on Tuesday, Feb. 23 for the Pioneer softball team. In a doubleheader against Ottawa University, Macie Jones provided a walk-off homer and walk-off hit to seal both victories for the Pioneers. The next games will be in a doubleheader against the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth beginning at 1:30 p.m.
