Alma Mater

Alma Mater

On a Kansas hill were planted
MidAmerica we laud you,
Dreams of hope from heaven's light;
Lift our praise to heaven above.

Pioneers' undaunted spirits
Stately pillars oft remind us
Kept the vision burning bright.
Of the hallowed halls we love.

Now it stands with sure foundation.
Keep the torch for freedom burning,
God directs its destiny
Fuel'd with passion for the right!

Like the eagle soaring higher:
Grant us faith that ever reaches
Ever stronger, ever free.
To the Source of Truth and Light.

Community Covenant

MidAmerica Nazarene University is an intentionally Christian learning community grounded in the biblical truth and the Wesleyan Holiness tradition.

That tradition, with its emphases on:

  1. Pursuing God’s truth in Scripture and the liberal arts
  2. Living in responsible community with God and with each other as an act of sacrificial love
  3. Seeking to serve our community and the world beyond as faithful witnesses of the Kingdom of God, governs our life together.

It is our commitment to live these truths we say we believe. This is personal and corporate integrity.

In order to live with integrity, we commit to the following:

  • To exercise the discipline of corporate worship where we hear God’s voice, discover God’s will and embrace God’s mission. We commit ourselves to faithful attendance and active participation in chapel.
  • To respect each other in our speech, attitudes, actions, and appearance. This respect is especially important in our perceptions and actions related to sexuality. We commit ourselves to treat one another with loving respect, valuing each other as persons of worth.
  • To practice abstinence from addictive substances and behaviors as a commitment to counter the rampant alcoholism, preventable disease, and addictive behaviors that destroy lives, families, friendships, and futures. By this corporate commitment we declare our freedom in Christ to live without addictions as well as provide a safe environment for those who need or seek such freedom. We commit ourselves to abstinence as an act of social justice and personal responsibility.
  • To guard our minds and hearts by seeking appropriate forms of entertainment that enhance our sensibilities to truth, responsible relationships, and servant leadership and avoiding those forms which dilute, distract, degrade, or destroy. We commit ourselves to careful discernment, shunning the immoral and pursuing the good.
  • To be truthful in all things – our academic work, the treatment of property belonging to others, and statements (written and/or oral) made to students, faculty, staff and administrators. We commit ourselves to speak and live honestly at all times, in all ways, and with all people.

We affirm its values and declare our intent to keepthese commitments, by the grace and power of God.
