I just cannot quite believe that the semester is soon coming to a close. Here we are with two and a half weeks of classes left–there is a light at the end of the tunnel! This is about the time of the year when it seems like everyone’s running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I must say my mind is feeling a bit scatterbrained trying to keep up with everything, so I apologize if this post is just absolutely random.
The biggest news I have to share is that I unexpectedly won $250 this past week! Our library on campus gives out a research award every year in which students can turn in papers they have worked on for classes for a cash prize. I turned in a research paper that I have been working on for most of the semester for a Criminology class that looks at whether or not crime could be seen as beneficial to society. I am very thankful to say that I won the award and the cash moneysss. There is seriously nothing better than getting paid the big bucks to do school work. PTL!!!
This last weekend my fiance and I and the youth group got to put on a sports and arts clinic at our church for kids in the area with special needs. We had about 35 kids come and provided basketball, volleyball, soccer, and arts & crafts for them to participate in. Both Zach and I have worked for Helpers Inc. in the past (an organization that provides care for kids with special needs in the Kansas City area) which provided us with connections to the Blue Valley area’s specail olympics. We were able to invite kiddos involved in this program to come participate in our clinic as a form of outreach and service to the community. It was so great watching our students interact with these beautiful children and have a blast doing so. How absolutely refreshing it is to be with people who truly treasure and enjoy the simple things of life.
Beyond that, I am afraid there is not really much more to report. Life lately has been filled with papers and projects and preparing for finals in a couple weeks!! Wish me luck!!
