The one where it all ends!

May 13, 2013 | By | No Comments

Well….ITS SUMMER! Oh my goodness I can’t believe that summer is finally here. This year has been so awesome. I have been through so much and changed in so many ways. It has been such a crazy year but I couldn’t have imagined it any other way.

I got to live in EUROPE! I am amazed at the all the things I got to do while over there. I got to have experiences that I will never forget. I’ve been to Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and France! How insane is that?! I had the time of my life and I am so thankful for everything that my semester abroad brought about. I grew in so many ways while living in Europe and I believe that going and living abroad forces you to be in situations that challenge you and allow you to grow. I am absolutely expecting to travel in my future and I can’t wait!

This summer I am  moving to Springfield, MO because I got a job working with a church in their youth ministry. I also am getting the opportunity to be a part of a deaf community down there. I will be working on my sign language and becoming more fluent than I am now. I am so pumped. I will be moving into a downtown loft apartment with my best friend from high school. I am so excited to see what God does this summer. It is going to be great. –>  Sunny days. Hanging with kids. The lake. And making memories of a lifetime.

This entire year has been such a growing time for me and I can only hope that the years to come will be just as incredible.

It have been so blessed this year and I am so glad I got to share it all with you! If you are going to be at MNU next year – I’ll see you then! Feel free to come talk to me! I would love to meet you. :)

Learn one last thing new today: Frisbees were invented by accident. If you visit the park in the summer, you probably enjoy tossing a frisbee. This toy was created in the 1870′s as a pie plate. (Yum!) But students started throwing them around in the 1940′s – changing the use to a form of entertainment.

Thank you students of the 40′s!

Have a great summer –>  go throw a frisbee!

PEACE OUT.

The one where procrastination triumphs!

ONE MORE WEEK!

This is the time when we all get summer fever. The last couple of days have been beautiful and some classes have even been outside! Our profs are the best!

A couple days ago some of my friends and I had a fish fry! The guys had gone fishing over the weekend so we all gathered in the back parking lot of Uphaus (an upperclassmen guys dorm) and had such a great time eating fish and fried potatoes and special recipe french fries. It definitely made us all crave summer that much more!

Next week is gonna be the last time that I get to share my life with all of you! I can’t believe everything I have gotten to do and experience over the past school year. One more week until I’m officially a junior in college. Such a crazy feeling.

I know that I should be reading and doing homework and writing and filling my brain with knowledge…BUT…I am so ready for summer and procrastination is sometimes just necessary! Now with that said – check out this video I found while not studying! :)

The one where chocolate gets you an A+

April 24, 2013 | By | No Comments

This past weekend was MAX! This is where church youth groups comes from all over the region to compete in different sports. There’s basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, etc. So many teens come to this event and it is so much fun to just see people everywhere on campus.

My old youth group was there so I got to see the kids that were younger than me. Some of my family also came because my cousins were playing in the basketball tournament. I loved getting to watch my little cousins play and see how much they have improved  since other times that I have seen them.

Friday night was Naz night at Worlds Of Fun! Students from MidAmerica and the youth that was on campus for MAX were able to go to WOF a day before it opened. My boyfriend and I went on a double date with my best friend and her boyfriend and it was a blast! We rode rides and ate sugar and then went to Waffle House afterwards. We had such an amazing night and really the whole weekend was just a great time.

The one where you learn about delectable lemonade! <3

April 18, 2013 | By | No Comments

SUMMER IS COMING! and lemonade makes me just itch for some summer sun, lake, sports, friends, activities, and freedom!

<if you can’t tell i’m experiencing a little bit of summer fever.>

so i thought i would share a fabulous lemonade recipe with you. :)

Lemonade Baby!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup sugar (can reduce to 3/4 cup)
  • 1 cup water (for the simple syrup)
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 3 to 4 cups cold water (to dilute)

PROCESS

1 Make simple syrup by heating the sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar is dissolved completely.

2 While the sugar is dissolving, use a juicer to extract the juice from 4 to 6 lemons, enough for one cup of juice.

3 Add the juice and the sugar water to a pitcher. Add 3 to 4 cups of cold water, more or less to the desired strength. Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes. If the lemonade is a little sweet for your taste, add a little more straight lemon juice to it.

Serve with ice and sliced lemons!

ENJOY SOME TASTY LEMONADE WHILE YOU WAIT FOR THAT LAST CLASS BELL TO RING!

Learn something new today:  Guess what?! You already did! ^ You learned how to make a delectable pitcher of lemonade! Congratulations!

The one where the men serve the ladies.

April 11, 2013 | By | No Comments

I know that some of you women are probably thinking that they should be  serving us everyday…and I can’t say that I want to disagree with you. But at MNU we have a special night set aside for it. It’s called Ladies Night.

We had this glorious evening just a few nights ago on Tuesday. We all get dressed up real fancy like and head on over to campus center or the tipping point. We are greeted at the door and escorted in by a lovely gentlemen and seated at a table with your friends. The waiters then approach welcoming us and inquiring about our drink order and choice of dessert. I personally chose to combine all of the desserts into one. A chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, topped with caramel or chocolate syrup, and covered with gummy bears or reese’s pieces. The night is filled with live music, compliments, smiles, and lots of pictures!

It really is a fun event and it is nice to get dressed up and have a fancy evening with all of your friends. And it’s not bad having the guys wait on you hand and foot and shower you with compliments either. ;)

The one where color flies!

April 3, 2013 | By | No Comments

Heeeeellllllloooooo there friends. So this week has been good but it’s gonna end with a bang! Before I jump to the super exciting part we will build up to that.

Tonight is LATE NIGHT BREAKFAST! This event is always a crowd favorite. It’s pretty self explanatory: everyone who goes to campus center late tonight gets to eat breakfast…hence–’late. night. breakfast.’ So that is pretty exciting!

Tomorrow is junior testing/priority registration day. In layman’s terms: NO CLASSES! This means we have the day off and when classes are cancelled that’s always exciting.

Then this weekend!!……I’m getting my COLOR RUN on! That’s right. I’m gonna wear all white, get up really early, go downtown, get my accessories, and run through glorious clouds of colored dust that is going to stain both my clothes and me as well as provide insanely awesome memories and lets not forget pictures. Now THAT–I am excited for.

I hope that you all have wonderful and EXCITING days this week. Have. some. FUN!

Just something extra that I was thinking about: Men accept compliments much better than women do. For example: “Mitch, you look great.” Mitch: “Thanks.” On the other side: “Ruth, you look great.” Ruth: “I do? Must be the lighting.” –> So true. Come on ladies just except that you look good and say thanks. ;)

The one when spring break 2013 is over.

March 28, 2013 | By | No Comments

“Easter is the only time of year when it’s perfectly safe to put all of your eggs in one basket.”

Well this time of year is super hectic and really calm all at the same time for us students here at MNU. We just had our spring break last week and I can’t speak for anything else but I did some random things during my break. My break went a little like this:

  • A lot of work! – Since I had the whole week off I got the chance to work many more hours than I normally do…in turn making much more ca$h money! Which is GREAT!
  • Freaks! – Some of my friends (Blaire, Sam, and Marissa) and I went to Freaks on Broadway (tattoo/piercing parlor) and got some stuff done. Blaire got her first front helix done, Sam pierced her rook, and Marissa got her second holes done. And I had them gauge one of my cartilage piercings a little bit because I wanted a specific earring in it.
  • I spent the weekend in Springfield, MO at a youth retreat called DNOW (Discipleship NOW) I was with a ton of youth from a church there and we got to go rock climbing, worship, eat, play games, etc. During this weekend I was able to use my ASL (American Sign Language) because there were two girls that were deaf. They were so sweet and I loved hanging out with them!

So I just started classes back up on Tuesday and now we have Easter break! This means we don’t have classes again until next Tuesday. It’s so nice to have breaks like that but at the same time it’s hard to get back in the swing of things after being gone and out of routine so much.

I hope that you all have a wonderful Easter!

The one where MNU loves YOU!

March 13, 2013 | By | No Comments

I know that most of my posts have lots of humor and are light-hearted but this one is gonna take on a more serious feel about myself and the presence/impact of MNU in my life.

A week ago my great-granny died and there were a lot of emotions. Even though her dying was very sad, it was a celebration because we all know that she is in Heaven. When tragedy strikes it is always great to have people who care about you to help and comfort you. Being here on campus gave me such a great support system around me. My roommate and other friends on my hall all comforted me when we found out that she had passed and it felt so good to have them with me.

MNU is such a great place of community. There are so many people on campus that truly care about each of the students that go here. I continually was checked up on by multiple professors about how I was doing since the funeral. Going to any other school would provide professors that either had too many students to even know me personally or just don’t care in general. But here at MidAmerica the professors and staff and students all have such a sense of community and love for one another. MNU is such an amazing place to be.

The one where you get the lowdown on Mabee.

February 27, 2013 | By | No Comments

Mabee Library:

*As you walk in the library you should look to the left and give a nice smile and friendly hello to the student workers at the front desk.

Bottom level - This is the “social level.” If you want to talk and socialize and if you’re okay with your studying being randomly interrupted by your peers then this level is where you should be.

Dewey’s - On the bottom level we have our coffee shop/cafe. They have tons of specialty drinks like coffee mixes, frozen blends, ciders  etc. There are also other bottled and canned drinks such as pop, Izze, fruit juices, Sobe, etc. Along with many different kinds of drinks you can also pick out some fruit, snacks, sweets, muffins, sandwiches, etc. Dewey’s is a great place to stop on your way to chapel or class or just an awesome way to start off your studying.

Big computer room - Also on the bottom level there is a big computer room. Sometimes this is used by classes but most of the time it is open for everyone to enjoy. This is a great resource for those who don’t have laptops but these computers are mostly used by students to print assignments, notes, etc.

Top level - This would be the “antisocial level.” If you need to focus and don’t want to be bothered or distracted than you should take the spiral staircase upstairs to a comfy couch/chair, study cove (blocked off desks), or isolation rooms.

*The lights throughout the library will flicker letting you know that you have 10-15 minutes until it closes. Except for finals week when its open later or special reasons when it could stay open later or close earlier.

Mon-Thu 7am-11pm
Closed for Chapel (Tue) 9:15-10:45am
Fri 7am-6pm
Sat 12-5pm
Sun 8-11pm

24 hour computer room - Late night prints after procrastinating to write a paper or copying training packets the morning of the seminar because you procrastinated.

24 hour Kresge room - Late night studying because you procrastinated or the place to go when you feel like distracting those who procrastinated.

The one where classes were cancelled!

February 21, 2013 | By | No Comments

SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!

We all just found out recently that our classes have been cancelled for tomorrow! We were all freaking out and yelling down the halls and calling people. Yes – college kids get just as excited or even more excited about not having classes! Right after we found out that we didn’t have class I called up my friend Hannah and we decided to watch the recording of the bachelor: Sean tells all! It is so much fun to live among all of your friends and have the freedom to do whatever you want because you are in charge of yourself! :)
