a view of MNU

February 10, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hello Friends!

So I realized that I currently have 26 pictures of clouds on my phone JUST from being at MNU.

I might be a little obsessed…

I’d like to share a few of them with you guys though! I thought it would be cool to show you guys how beautiful MNU is. But also, how beautiful God’s masterpieces are.

This is super random, but i didn’t want to give you guys another blog about the snow days that we just had. Which isn’t bad, cause they were awesome! But yeah! So IN HONOR of all of the snow days we have had, here’s some random pictures of clouds and sunsets/sunrises. I hope you enjoy! :]

clouds5clouds4 clouds3 clouds2 clouds 1

I know all of these may look the same to you, but I feel as though God has created all of them in a unique way. :] He’s maybe the creator of the universe.. and He’s just super cool like that.

Next weeks blog will have more things to it. I promise! Thanks for stopping by!

resting, snow days, and the Baker game

February 3, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hello friends!

So let me just jump into things…lately, I’ve discovered that you have to do a lot of reading in college. Crazy, I know. ;] I didn’t fully grasp that fact until this semester when i got bombarded with 4 huge textbooks that I need to read to be able to do well in my classes. And it’s true, I know personally for me, if I read (and really read my books, not just skim over them) I will definitely better my understanding of what the professor is teaching in the class. Weird how it works that way…I mean, who reads anyways? Just kidding. I know that there are a lot of people that enjoy reading. I enjoy it at times, but if I’m really not too passionate about the subject, its hard for me to read the material. But it also says in Gods word that whatever we do, whether in word or in deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. sometimes its difficult to have that attitude about schoolwork, but I feel that that’s the attitude that Christ would want me to have towards it.

Anyways. So lately I have been kind of overwhelmed just thinking about the work load that I have.  At the same time, I don’t want to get too overwhelmed and instead, be balanced in managing my time. Which also means taking time to rest occasionally. But you see, this is hard when this culture has convinced us that we have to be entertained and doing something every single second of every day. And you know what, we really don’t have to! It’s actually really okay to just do nothing. I’m not saying be lazy and sit around all the time, I’m saying that with this constant entertainment surrounding us, we can be so consumed with having to do things all the time and have a constant desire to be entertained. Managing your time well is always great, and getting things done and being diligent in your work is even better. But I think that taking the time to rest and be able to recap is extremely important. I also believe that this lines up with scripture.

Another thing I’ve learned about myself while being in college is that i really stink at time management. I also am really bad at saying no to people. I think that can be a good quality and a bad quality. A good one because the fact that I can’t say no to things can really open up more opportunities that i maybe wouldn’t have had if i had said no. But on the other hand, i can get carried away with saying yes to everything and end up being extremely overwhelmed. I know we’ve probably all experienced this at some point in our life. I know It happens to me almost daily! College has really stretched me in a way in which I have had to be conscious about who and what I’m saying yes to and how I’m managing my time. It is especially difficult to balance doing activities out of school and also being diligent in getting homework done and taking time to read.

So guys, I just thought I’d share a little bit about what college has taught me so far. I know there are so many things I am still learning, and are yet to learn, but for now I hope this was good insight to you guys in some way.

Also……

Tomorrow is supposed to snow a lot, so that means, SNOW DAY FOR MNU! When all of campus found out we were having a snow day, it pretty much felt like the world was going to end. Everyone started franticly rushing to Wall-Mart to prepare to be stuck in their rooms for days. I think all of us at MNU are actually hoping that we are stuck in our rooms for days. Maybe because we have procrastinated studying for the 4 tests that we have this week. THIS. WEEK. And you never know, they just might all fall on the same day. Which does happen quite often.

So yeah! Thanks for stopping by, comment if you would like, but until next time,

-Heather Rose :]

P.S. the video at the top is of the Baker vs. MNU game that we had last Thursday. WE WON by the way. :] but this was the half time show, and it was really odd, but really funny. So you should definitely watch it! :]

rend collective experiment

January 27, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hey guys!

Last night I went to a Rend Collective Concert in Grandview Missouri. (Which is about 25 minutes from MNU)

IT.WAS.AWESOME.

Seriously. If you’ve never heard of them before, go look them up. Now.

This wasn’t really a concert, it was more of a worship celebration. Irish style. :] Yes, all of them are from Ireland, and they celebrate Christ in such a way that I’ve never experienced. There was this one guy who had a stick that had all sorts of gadgets on it and he would hit it on the ground and go all around the stage. I have no idea what the instrument was, but it was pretty great watching him go crazy! Here’s some pictures of them and my friends that I went to the concert with. Also, check out the video at the top of my blog! another thing I loved about them was how authentic they were in their worship. They also sound exactly like they do on their CD’s, which is always a plus when you go see a band live.

This was where all of the booths were set up with their merchandise. You could buy their CD's and a few other things there!

Here’s Rend Collective!! :]

I don't know if you can see it very well, but this was the last song when the lead singer got out his Ukulele! I was so excited.

I just had to put this in here because the sunset on the way to the concert was like an explosion of color! It was beautiful and I got very distracted while driving.

The wind and the waves

January 20, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hello friends!

So this week was the first week back from break. First week of classes, and first week of stress. Let me tell you, it was a little overwhelming for me. I’m the type of person that when I look at all the things I have to accomplish, even if a homework assignment isn’t due for another two weeks, or maybe not even homework, maybe something in my life that I’m just dwelling on a lot, I freak out and get really anxious. So this has been my life this week. But I also wanted to share with you guys the lesson I have learned from this.

This lesson actually has to do with one of my new classes I’m taking. Well, not necessarily the class, but what we study. I’m currently in a New Testament! I can say with confidence that this will be one of my favorite classes this whole semester. Mainly because I’m studying the bible instead of math equations! How awesome is that! I feel so incredibly blessed that I’m able to go to a school that allows us to dive into the word and study it on a deeper level.

So throughout the semester, we are required to read our “Discovering the New Testament” book that we had to purchase for the class, but we also are required to read the whole New Testament! We are first reading the 4 Gospels, which are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and john. We are starting with Mark, and I am currently reading chapter 4 right now. And this is where all that I’m talking about will make a little more sense to you.

Mark 4:35-41 says,

“That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

When I read this, it really hit hard for me. I feel as though sometimes, I can be the disciples. Asking God if he knows what I’m going through. And if He is still there with me. The example of having lots of homework is nothing compared to what kind of trauma’s we can experience sometimes in this life. But this past week, and I think it was a build up of a lot of things I’m going through right now, I have felt as though I’m stuck right in the middle of that storm.

But why am I so afraid…. Do I still have no faith?

Can the God who calmed the storm for the disciples that day, who said to the wind and the waves, “Quiet! Be still!”,  also be the same God who can calm the storms in my life?

Yes. He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. My faith has been tested quite a lot throughout this season of my life, and I know for sure God has been there with me throughout all of the storms I have had to face.

So I guess I just wanted to share with you guys what was on my heart this weekend/has been on my heart for a while now. I hope it spoke to you in some way. I also want to encourage you to rest in Him. Whatever may be going on in your life right now, and even if you aren’t going through anything crazy; just praise him for being God. :] Even as he calmed the storm for the disciples, he can calm you throughout any storm you may be going through right now.

God sometimes chooses to calm us, rather than the storms. But he also promises never to leave us. He is our comforter and he loves us more than we could ever imagine.

To lighten the mood of this blog post, I thought i'd share with you guys a cute picture of my lovely friend, Emily. We went to savers today for their 50% off sale, and this is what she found. :] I love her a lot, and am so blessed to be able to do life with this girl. :]

Goodbye to christmas break, hello to a new semester!

January 13, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hello Blog World. :]

This break has been pretty wonderful. Not having to worry about homework, writing papers, or waking up from a nap to get to class on time has been very nice! Spending time to just rest, especially in the Lord, has been amazing as well. It was nice to have so much time on my hands to be able to read the word and seek God without any distractions surrounding me. Other than spending Christmas day in Austin, Texas, I did some more things over this break that I want to share with you guys!

2014-01-08 12.59.01

I went to an antique store with some of my friends over the break and this is just an example of the cute things that were in this place. My friends and I agreed though that a lot of the things in there, we could make ourselves. But it was still a fun time looking around and gathering craft ideas!

2014-01-07 15.28.18

This is my super pretty friend Lauren. :] She was looking for the book “The Hobbit” and we ended up getting caught up in how great it was to be surrounded by so many books. So here she is. Being all cute and stuff.

2014-01-10 19.20.32

This is my friend Zack Manuel! He recorded a CD and had his CD release show at one of our local coffee shops on the last weekend I was in town. This was his CD table where he was selling them for $1, and I definitely bought one. I would go check his music out on ITunes, and buy his CD!
2014-01-10 21.04.44

This is kind of blurry, but here is a picture of him performing! There were so many people there that I kept getting pushed into the corner of the room! It was pretty awesome!

2014-01-11 20.36.35

To end an awesome break, I got to make some baby sugar cookies with my little sisters and decorate them (kind of) for valentines day! Well, that’s the theme we were trying to go for. It was super cute watching them decorate and I always enjoy spending time with my wonderful family. :]

Well guys, here’s to a new year full of all new activities and adventures. I cannot wait to start another semester here at MNU and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I’m ready to see how God is going to work and move on this campus, and how he is going to send us out into this world to spread his marvelous light. :]

-Heather Rose :]

P.S. I’ve been reading this awesome book called “Love does” if you haven’t heard of it, go to a bookstore and buy it! It does a wonderful job of showing really what love is supposed to look like. Real love, the love that comes from being sacrificial like Jesus when he died on the cross for us. I’ve also been listening to some great bands such as “Gungor” and “Young Oceans” Check all of those out if you haven’ already!

an airplane to Austin, and an Artshow

January 1, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hey Friends!

It’s been awhile since I’ve last posted, but don’t worry, I haven’t just been sitting around doing nothing for  a couple of weeks. I want to show you guys what I did for Christmas this year! And it wasn’t exactly a white Christmas…

So this year was the first time I went somewhere out of my home state for Christmas. I went to Austin, Texas! This is where my mom is currently located, so my brother and I took a plane to Austin and celebrated Christmas with her, just the three of us.

2013-12-23 07.16.02

Here’s a picture of the beautiful sunrise I saw on the plane on the way to Texas. :] I thoroughly enjoy riding in airplanes because it reminds me of how big my God is, and how small I really am. It also lets me basically ride on a cloud…which is pretty awesome. :]

2013-12-23 12.13.30

This was the outside of a Pizza place we went to! Downtown Austin has so much character and there are so many things to do down there!

2013-12-23 11.30.53

This is the view of my moms apartment right when you walk in. I love it so much because the windows are huge, and it has a beautiful view of the apartments courtyard!

2013-12-23 13.53.28

The first day we got there we went to this art Bizarre that had booths of artists work that you could walk around, look at and purchase if you wanted! :] I also found this there…

2013-12-23 14.23.39

This lamp is probably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. :] sorry for another thing about clouds, I just had to share this one. :]

2013-12-25 14.38.36

While we were in Austin, we also got a chance to climb a mountain! It was absolutely beautiful up there and the temperature was just perfect!

2013-12-25 18.46.38

To end an awesome week in Austin, my brother, mom and I went to see this great Christmas lightshow! There were tons of people there and I guess the people that put it on do this show annually! It was so popular it made it on the news! I have a video of it above, so check it out!

Well friends, that’s all from me for now. I hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas like I did!

Until next time,

-Heather Rose :]

Hello Blog World!

Sooo I just wanted to let you guys know that…

I survived my first finals week! Thank the Lord! :]

Now I am sitting in my living room at home, just enjoying the nice long break that I get to have before going back for another semester at MNU. Although having a long break is nice, I have to admit, I already miss being at MNU and my family there… :/ but its okay! We will be reunited soon enough!

Before we all left after finals to go our separate ways to our family and friends back home, my MNU friends and I decided to go do something fun one last time before our departure! Here are some pictures:

2013-12-12 21.33.04

This is all of us! We decided to go to steak and shake at around 9:30 at night. These girls are some of my best friends and can make me laugh like none other.

2013-12-12 21.37.15

2013-12-12 21.37.32

Also, There was sort of a surprise waiting for me when I arrived home:

2013-12-14 12.33.21

These are my sisters in our new hot tub! It was an early Christmas present to the whole family! How awesome is that? :]

Well friends, I hope you have an amazing Christmas and realize what this season is all about; The hope that was brought into the world by the birth of Jesus Christ. We can get so distracted by everything else this world tries to make Christmas about and forget the true meaning of it. So rest in His hope today and enjoy time with your family and friends!

 until next time,

Santa, Snow, and Studying

December 9, 2013 | By | No Comments

Hello friends :]

So, right now I am currently at Starbucks.. drinking coffee.. and studying for the 4 finals, added on with 3 unit tests that I have.

In college, for me at least, coffee shops and MNU’s library are two of my favorite places to be. Lately, I have spent a lot of my time at both of these places. For me today, Starbucks has taken a little bit of the stress off of the insane amount of information I have to cram into my brain this week. So thank you Starbucks!

Also, this is maybe one of the only places that I get wifi…so that’s cool.

This past week/weekend was just full of everything Christmas! Let me show you guys some pictures:

2013-12-04 12.48.26

SANTA! He came to the Merc! If you don’t know what the Merc is, it’s our merchandise store located in our Campus Center.

2013-12-04 22.30.34

On this past Thursday night, my friend Jazmine and I had a movie night and we made coffee in our room! It might have been a slight mistake though because it was around 10:00 p.m. when we made it. Lets just say that I was up pretty late that night. But it was delicious, so it was definitely worth it! This isn’t really Christmassy, but I thought i’d share with you guys my coffee masterpiece.

2013-12-05 19.36.19

This is a picture from our Freshman Christmas sweater party! I came a little late so I missed out on the dance party, which was really upsetting, but other than that it was a wonderful time! There was hot cocoa, egg nog, snacks, and our MNU improv team (Action Pact) came and did an improv show for us!2013-12-07 00.52.50 Okay, I know what you’re thinking.. “Who is this super attractive lady with a Rudolf nose coming out of her mouth?” Well my friends, this is my RA Faith Koker. She is the bomb. I mean just look at her. :]

 elf

To start the Christmas season off right, some of my friends and I decided to watch Elf this weekend! I think I have maybe seen this movie 15 times, but it never ever gets old. :]

piano

MNU also got some snow this weekend! It was a really light snow so we barely got any at all, but it was still snow! Which makes it feel even more like Christmas! I also took this picture in our piano rooms and I thought it really captured just how beautiful they are. Well, I think they’re beautiful at least. I do find myself spending a lot of my time in here as well as in the library and Starbucks. :] You can also kind of see the little bit of snow we got on top of the roof of my dorm outside the window.

Well guys, I don’t know about you, but I am ready to be done with this week, not just because it’s finals week, but because that means next week is the start of Christmas break! It’s going to be wonderful having a whole month off to see my family and friends again. I will definitely miss my MNU family though.

Until next time,

-Heather Rose :]

Breaks are nice

December 2, 2013 | By | No Comments

Hello Friends!

This past week was our Thanksgiving break! I got the chance to go home and eat some delicious home cooked meals, catch up with some pretty cool friends, and spend time with my lovely family! My sisters were even waiting for me when I came home, which is pretty awesome to come home to! Here are some pictures to show you guys the things I did this past week!

2013-11-29 11.56.55

One great thing I got to do was go see Catching Fire! The movie was pretty amazing. I really wish I would have read the books though because I heard from multiple people that if you read them the movie would make a lot more sense. But other than that, I still thought it was amazing. Also, I want to be Katniss when I grow up.

2013-11-28 20.24.43

Thanksgiving day was also pretty wonderful. We picked up on playing the card game Nertz this year in my family, and it. was. intense. That game can get super crazy, but it’s really fun at the same time. I had a blast playing it with them, and it was double awesome because I got to drink some hot apple cider, which is always wonderful. I was in heaven.

2013-11-30 19.34.33

Saturday night my friends Zack and Sydney played music and sang at a coffee shop in Hutchinson, KS. I had the privilege of going with them and be serenaded by their angelic voices. It was also a super cool coffee shop with twinkly lights and amazing coffee! I maybe bought 2 cups of coffee..in the time span of 2 hours.. and I’m not ashamed.

2013-11-30 21.37.24

This is the view of the coffee shop on the inside.

2013-11-30 20.07.09

This is my friend Sydney. Not only does she have an amazing voice, she does some pretty awesome artwork too! :] She is lovely.

Well this is all I have for you guys this week. It was wonderful to be on break, but I always love coming home to MNU. It has definitely captured a place in my heart already. :]

Until next time,

-Heather Rose :]

I’ve been learning lately…

November 25, 2013 | By | No Comments

Hello Blog world. :]

This week’s blog is going to be a little different from what I usually do. God has definitely taught me some stuff that I would like to share with you guys.

Something pretty exciting happened to me this weekend! It may not seem like a huge deal to some, but I had the chance to lead worship on Sunday morning for a church in Basehor, Kansas! This was actually the first time I have ever gotten to decide who was on the team, select the songs, and lead each of the songs that we played. Not that leading worship at this church was about me and my experience AT ALL, but it was overall just a wonderful opportunity!

Village Community Church was where we went to lead worship. I took a team of people from MNU that were so great to sacrifice their time to lead worship with me. I know I am definitely not the best worship leader in the world, but God has been so very generous in giving me many opportunities to stretch the talents and gifts He has given me. There is still so much to learn, but if there was one thing I have learned since I’ve been here at MNU, it’s that It is SO not about me.

Even if I try my hardest to be the best at whatever it may be, I know it won’t be perfect. It may be close, or even way far off. I am only human, but God is ALL powerful, ALL knowing, and ALL merciful.

And I am SO thankful for that! He knows exactly what He is doing. To think that He would use someone like me to lead people into the presence of God is a miracle in itself. And when I said He knows exactly what He is doing, I really mean it. He knew that I was meant to come to MNU.

I don’t know how else I would have been able to experience the things that I am right now if it wasn’t for this college. I am beyond blessed and I can’t even describe to you how mind blown I have been by the chances I’ve had to be able to do what God has called me to do. It is truly insane to think about. God also knows exactly what I’m going through right this second. And even in my brokenness, or whatever I may be going through, despite the challenges that can come in this life, He can still use me. He is still good.

His love is unconditional. It does not depend solely on my circumstances. I really hope you take this in personally for yourself too, because He knows EXACTLY what is going on in your life, right this second, and He has walked through everything with you. Every single thing that you have been through, He has been there. :] How awesome is that?!

So this is what’s been laid on my heart this weekend, and I wanted to share this with you guys because I think it really captures what MNU is all about. This school has blessed my life tremendously in a way that I will never forget.

Rest in His truth today.

I promise you won’t regret it. :]

“It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. For scripture says to Pharaoh: I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” –Romans 9:16, 17
