The End is (Kind Of) Near

April 26, 2015 | By | No Comments

Hey everyone!

Every part of our campus is prepping for the end of the academic year. Finals are coming up, and many departments are gearing up for the final haul.

I’m getting ready for finals, but also getting ready for Glow with the Flow on Sunday, and for ASG work week after that, and I’m very excited for both of those.

Glow with the Flow is ASG’s annual glow party at the end of the year. It involves inflatables, glow sticks, dancing, and food. The event is the hand off event for Social Life on ASG, so as the new director, this is the first event I’ll be taking over and planning, and I can’t wait. It’s Sunday at 9pm on Land if you’re a current student, so get yourself down there.

Work week is when the new ASG exec council preps for the new year and specifically the fall semester. We will work on calendar scheduling, and getting everything ready for next year. We also get to do some team building and other fun stuff.

Then, after work week, I’ll be moving into Colony West, one of the apartment style residence halls, and prepping to travel this summer with MNU SERVEteams, after performances in Chicago with the choir.

Even though school is drawing to a close, there’s still a lot to be done!

That’s it for now!

A Week In The Life of Sam Moore

April 25, 2015 | By | No Comments

My favorite thing to do when I come home from a long day and have already crawled into bed is to check social media: Instagram, Twitter and Facebook! So, my blog this week I decided to post things from my life in the past week to catch you guys up on what all is happening before I graduate in exactly ONE WEEK… what is life?!

This is Sarah, we both won awards from the business department. I won Outstanding Business Psychology major and she won High Score on Senior Comp as a Business Administration major. We have been friends all four years!

I LOVE BASEBALL!! This is one of my friends Santiago Romero he is a pitcher and plays second base. I love going to the MNU baseball games and go as often as I can.

Lizzie, Santi, and Nelson are three of my really good friends here at MNU. Santi and Nelson play baseball and Lizzie plays soccer. We call ourselves Framily. This is after the boys won (Santi as pitcher and Nelson as first base) playing Benedictine.

These girls have been my friends since freshman year. The two on the right have been roommates, two on the left have been roommates and marissa and me in the middle have been roommates for our freshman and sophomore year. I love these girls!

spittal

This is Dr. Spittal, he is the President for MNU. He came to a banquet I put on for ASG called Legacy of Leadership.

HAHAHAHA, this is Duby, or Jon but I always call him Duby. He is on ASG with me and has been a really good friend of my this whole year. I would consider him one of my close friends. This was also taken at Legacy of Leadership.

This is on one of my best friends Hannah on the left and our friend Lauryn on the right. They go to Pittsburg state and I got to see them this past weekend. Whenever we are together it is always a blast.

THESE GUYS HAVE BEEN MY LIFE THE PAST YEAR. ASG is officially over and I had such a fantastic year with these people. They have blessed me in so many ways and I wouldn’t change the past year for anything. Love you guys!

I hope you guys enjoyed clips of my week in rewind. I am graduating in a week and it is just absolutely crazy for me to think about. I enjoyed blogging this year and glad I could share some aspects of my life from my senior year at MNU.

See you later Kittens!

NSLC This Week!

April 7, 2015 | By | No Comments

Hey everyone!

This week, I’m preparing to go to Nazarene Student Leadership Conference, or NSLC. We leave tomorrow, at 6am, and head from here to Bourbonnais, IL to Olivet Nazarene University, who are hosting the event this year.

The schedule involves group sessions focused on leadership, as well as sessions in which we share ideas and information with our counterparts at other Nazarene universities. For instance, I’ll be meeting with the other Directors of Social Life from the other schools.

There are other events, like a dodgeball tournament, and spirit events that we’ll be participating in as well, not to mention a day in Chicago on our last day there.

Be on the lookout for an update next time on how it goes!

Cracking Down

March 29, 2015 | By | One Comment

Hey everyone,

Not sure what to blog about this week, so I figured I’d just talk about what’s going on.

It’s coming down to the wire here at MNU, with just a month left of school, and it seems like I have something stressful going on in every part of my life.

Thursday night, we had our second Awakening. This time, we had it outside on the circle lawn, and it was SO good. The setting was perfect, and we got closer again to accomplishing what we’ve set out to do: to see our campus set on fire for God.

Today, I visited a different church than my home church and had a great time. It’s called Mission Church and it’s in Lenexa, KS.

Tonight we have Nazzy Night Live. It’s being put on by ASG and it’s basically the MNU version of SNL. There will be sketches, videos and even a jazz band. I led a group that came up with a few of the sketch and video ideas, and we think we did a pretty good job, but tonight’s audience will be the judge of that.

I’m looking forward to serving as the ASG Director of Social Life for the next school year. Tonight after Nazzy Night Live we’re having a meeting about a leadership event we’re attending called Nazarene Student Leadership Conference (NSLC). The event is being held at our Nazarene sister school, Olivet Nazarene University. We’re all very excited to go and learn about how to be an effective leader and work as a team.

Presley Wilson is the current ASG Director of Social Life, and I’ve started training and shadowing under her. We are in the process of getting things ready for our end of the year event, Glow With the Flow, so you can definitely expect to hear about that in a future blog.

My church’s annual egg hunt, Eggstreme Eggstravaganza, is coming up this Saturday and I couldn’t be more excited to see a bunch of little kids running around a field picking up plastic and candy. Kidding. It actually will be a really fun event, and a great community outreach opportunity however.

That’s what’s coming up in my life, thank you so much for reading.

Have a good week!

After Awakening

March 8, 2015 | By | No Comments

Hey everyone!

So, last time, I wrote about an event we were putting on called Awakening. I figured I would write a follow up entry about how the event went.

After set up with the band, the grillers and the other ASG Class Council members, people started to arrive. I was pretty nervous that there would be barely any people there, but we actually had far more than any of us expected. Of course it’s not all about the numbers when it comes to a worship event, but it was a huge encouragement to see so many people there.

After about 45 minutes of eating, chatting and general fellowship with people from every class level at MNU, we got started with worship. We kicked this part off with scripture and prayer, then dove into worship through song. It was a great time of intimate worship, and the band did an excellent job of being sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

We plan on doing a few more installments of Awakening throughout the rest of the semester, so the first event was truly a great launchpad for us. We were able to see what went well and what didn’t, and now we can apply that at the next Awakening. We also got to hear from some other students about their passions and some ideas they have for the event. I’m so excited to see how God is going to use this event for his glory.

Thank you so much for reading! Have a great week!

Be: Student Body President

March 5, 2015 | By | One Comment

So, my friend Duby (Director of Student Ministries for ASG) wrote a rap for me on President’s Day. I thought i would share it with you guys so you see a year in the life of the President and what goes on in-between all the events, meetings and other fun things we do. We are one big family and it is so fun to be able to be a part of something that challenges you. I love my ASG family and I would not be the person I am today without the journey from the last four years on ASG.

Sam, Happy President’s Day

I hope yours was ok

Ok let me be clear

It has been fun on ASG- overall a good year

With a bunch of food and a whole lot of events

This is college- having fun is common sense

Anyways enough is enough we will look back

There are times I thought ASG was real wack

Think of the trip to Ohio that was quite the hike

Ron off roading, 37 times like we were on a mountain bike

Or the time we went to pin stripes all night

Hanging with each other, watching the musical Christmas lights

And all the things that were said or the comments that were made

Like Sam not going to church which is what Luke did persuade

But things get better this is just the start

Don’t forget all the trips with Kylen to get water at Wal-Mart

Or maybe another memory basically senior of the year

Voted as Homecoming Queen gave ASG quite a cheer

Lets go back to November to the Board of Trustees

I drove in the circle with Lauren yelling yippee

Putting up with me and Josh, oh my gosh, I cant go there

Did you ever realize he has like perfect hair

The time the air horn got passed around the whole office

Started with Alyssa, then me, then you- that was flawless

And KristiRose always screaming Turt

While Presley is once again wearing an old ladies skirt

To end this presidential decree

Am thankful to remind you of some of ASG’s history

Enjoy until next time kitties!!!!

Awakening

March 5, 2015 | By | 4 Comments

Hey y’all,

This week, I’m going to talk about an event that the sophomore ASG class council is putting on, and which I’m lucky enough to be involved in.

At the start of the semester, our class president, Austin Petellin, asked us what our vision for the campus for this semester is.  The thought of a spiritual awakening really resonated with the council.  So, we began to plan an event.

We came up with a recurring event which will be on a few select Thursdays throughout the rest of the semester. The event is called Awakening, and the first one is tonight.

The event is centered around getting together and eating together, and, more importantly, worshiping together.  We’ll have a cook-out, and then gather for a time of worship with no agenda.  We have a passion to see this campus changed, and are trying to make steps to realize that change, this being one of them.  The time of worship will start after we get done serving food, and we are just going to chase after God.

The class council is SO excited to see how God is going to show up tonight, and we want you to be a part of it!  If you’re a current student, please come and join us, and if you’re coming to MNU soon, or are even just considering coming to MNU, please pray with us tonight at 6pm from wherever you are.

I can’t wait to see what happens tonight!

Have an awesome week,

Aaron

Time for Some Campaignin’

February 22, 2015 | By | No Comments

Hoping everyone had a great week!

I’ve been very busy lately, working on campaign materials and strategies for the on-campus ASG Executive Cabinet elections.  I am running for Director of Social Life, and there have been many hours and staples put into the process.

I’ve made posters, logos, and promo cards for the campaign, and also done lots of planning for the campaign forum tomorrow evening.  Elections are soon, and the entire process has been taxing but extremely fun.   Social-life-poster-2

The next (and almost last) thing left in the campaign is the election forum tomorrow evening.  The forum is a chance for student to get to know the candidates and put names with faces ahead of the elections on Tuesday, the 24th.

Students will get to walk around the Tipping Point in Land Gym, and visit the booths of candidates running for various positions, and it should be an exciting time for both the students and the candidates.

Hoping everyone has a great week,

Aaron

Busy Busy Busy

February 8, 2015 | By | No Comments

And so begins the busiest month of the semester:

In February, there’s a lot going on at MNU, so here’s what you can be excited for:
The RA Selection Process

Every spring, the interview process to select new RAs begins. Resident Assistants are the liaison between the Residential Life staff, and the residents of the on-campus dorms, so you can imagine a rigorous interview process. RAs are typically the go-to person for any issue with your room, any type of question, or, in some cases, for advice and guidance. These are the people you spend a lot of your time with, and are usually the smiling face welcoming you to your new home for a year.

ASG Exec Elections and Appointments

Associated Student Government begins the election process for the executive board in February as well. This results in a flurry of petitions going around campus, as well as campaign posters and new creative campaigning strategies each year. The members of the newly elected board will be the student-chosen group of people to lead events, activities, and support for all traditional undergraduate students of MNU. New incoming and returning students can look forward to a Welcome Week full of events to get the year kicked off in the fall.

MNU SERVEteams Audition and Interviews

Each summer, groups of students from MNU go out into the MNU Community/region to Nazarene district assemblies. They are not only a publicity tool for our university, but a way for the university to minister in places it normally wouldn’t be able to. Different teams include a sponsor team, a worship team and a vocal team.

Put all three of the above opportunities with tests ramping up, performances, class time, jobs, and sports, and you get a lot of very busy college students.

Busy doesn’t necessarily have to mean stressed, though, and the month is one of the funnest.

With so many things going on, and each of us committing time and energy to so much, I’d like to leave you all with a bible verse:

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Thanks, and have a great week!

I also get to go surfing, so that is a plus! I will be posting a lot of pictures on Instagram so make sure you follow us @mnublogs

We did a Welcome Back Week from Winter Break which consisted of: Tuesday was unlimited bowling, laser tagging and put put at Incredabowl, Wednesday was Late Night Breakfast with pancakes and tater tots and Thursday was Smoovie Night where we watched Mosters University in the Library and drank Smoothie King Smoothies. It was a blast!
