Homecoming week was full of fun, excitement, and adventure! Watch this video to see many of the events that took place. (Stick around until the end for a message from a few of our past bloggers, Joey and Mario.)
Homecoming week is over… what do I do with my life now?! Here are a few pictures from the past week for y’all to enjoy:
This is Jorge! We walked together for Homecoming court and ended up winning together! He makes a pretty handsome King if I do say so myself, he is a RA on campus!
This is Lippi! He is my best friend! We went to high school together and he came to MNU when I was a sophomore to play soccer! Since he came here we have had multiple classes together and finally introduced ourselves even though we already knew each other. And now, we are best friends. He is so great to me and always encourages and supports me. Love you Leapster!
This is the squad also known as ASG! Luke, Presley, Alyssa, Kristi, Kylen, Duby, Josh, Lauren and then me! We spend a lot of time together and sometimes too much time. I love each and every one of them though and could not imagine my senior year without them. This is Eddie! I talked about him in a previous post, any who he was up for Homecoming King for seniors this year. It was also his first year to go to Homecoming. It was a blast!
This is one of my best friends Lorena! We have gotten so close over the past two years she has been here and I am so glad she came into my life. I would not survive MNU without her and she brightens up everyones day! This was at the Bon Fire and Car Bach that we had. Love this girl! This is Stacy and I talk about her a lot! She is one of my roommates and I am so glad we went to Homecoming together because we had so much fun! Senior year would honestly not be the same if she was not in my life constantly. We are always hanging out and are always either going to sporting events together or watching sporting events! Anyways, I LOVED MY DRESS!
trying something new with a video this week! Hope to do more of these! I am currently studying for my Human Resource test I have on Friday of Homecoming week and my birthday week.. be praying! It is such a fun and crazy week I have in front of me but it will be a fun one.
As always comment and I would love to chat with you!
This week is all about the shout outs to some of my favorite people on and off campus! You meet so many people during your four years at MNU you could practically fill up a book of yellow pages! That is what makes MNU so amazing, is all the people you meet along the journey. So this week I dedicated to a few special people!
These girls mean a lot to me! They understand me and have been there for me since the very beginning when we all found out we got elected as executive members for Assocaited Student Government! Presley, Alyssa, Kristi, Lauren and Kylen (starting from the left). They encourage me to keep going even when times are frustrating. Thanks for the support girls! #girlsruleboysdrool
This is Becca. If you have guys read my last blog you would remember that she has been one of my best friends since Freshman year and last year we lived together. Well her senior night was last night and it was amazing. They beat Benediction in a 3-0 upset. I made this collage for her from pictures since freshman year of us at her games. She is a great volleyball player and a great friend!
A few weekends ago some of my friends and me went to the lake to help celebrate my friend Nancy who was getting married. It was such a fun and relaxing weekend. This is Bre, she graduated from MNU with a nursing degree and her husband Rustin also graduated from MNU and played basketball. She is such a sweet girl and we had a blast at the Lake of the Ozarks.
This is Kristi. She is on ASG and her role is Director of Pioneer Spirit, which means she gets people pumped about the upcoming games that are happening. This was from our first football game when ASG put on a tailgate. The team won and we had a great turn out at the event. She is a great planner and a even greater friend. She also happens to be hilarious! This is someone you want to get to know if you do not already know her.
These are my awesome parents. This picture is from this summer when we went on a family vacation to Colorado. These two people mean the world to me and so I felt a shout out was in order. They support me and love me no matter what and push me to be a better person. They are always showing up for me and make me want to strive to be a better person. Plus my dad loves watching sporting events so we are buds when it comes to going to different games whether it be a MNU game or the Royals.
My last shout out goes to my roommates in Ramsey 3! Four of them play soccer. This was from a soccer game they had at the beginning of school. These girls let me love life and teach me how to. They are hilarious and always know how to make me laugh. We have grown so close these first few months from school and I can not wait to see where the year takes us. Thanks for putting up with me and always making me laugh!
Well that is it for this week! As always, comment and I would love to chat with you about any questions you have for me! Stay awesome and stay blessed!
I am back and at it again! I am now an official sophomore at MNU and I am quite enjoying myself (besides the endless amounts of homework). We are about a month into school now and so much has went down! Here are some top memories to keep you up to date!
Above the title picture are my lovely and beautiful suitemates on the first day of school! That day we were really excited, and its been all downhill since ;). My friend Rachel is in the nursing program so she is extra excited and extra stressed.
This is my childhood best friend Annie! We came to MNU together last year and I am so thankful for her! This us at ASG’s White Light Event. We downed melted chocolate and had some very classy conversations of course.
MNU at the K! This is my friend Dan Wright. He would hate me for putting this picture up, but he refuses to read my blogs so hopefully he’ll never see it :).
MNU tailgate at the first home football game! My sister came to visit (she’s in the middle) and it was soooo fun! We love having a winning football team!
And lastly a much needed picture of Thrift Store Prom is below. We got are tacky on (I wore a jumpsuit) and skated at Skate City. It was a blast!
There is sooo much more in store for this year! God has really laid a lot of things on my heart that I can’t wait to share with you all! Also some fun things too Right now I am trying to enjoy every minute of my college experience because one day I will wake up and it will be over These are some of the best years of your life! You get to live with your best friends, go to crazy events, yell at sporting events, and attend chapel multiple times a week. So if you’re in school don’t wish it away, if you’re in high school don’t wish it away (but do know college is pretty amazing! especially if you go to MNU hint hint), if you are in your early part of your career don’t wish it away! Take the time to learn and grow, to make memories, and to see the opportunities God has for you now. God doesn’t need you to be at a certain stage of your life to use you, He uses you just as you are!
First off, can I get an AMEN to National Coffee Day today! I might have got free coffee from QuickTrip and from Dunkin Donuts… no shame!
So, as you have seen in my about me this year I am Associated Student Government Student Body President. So naturally I decided I should write my first blog post on the first week of events that ASG has during the first week of school. We have an event every night!
Tuesday- White Light Event
Wednesday- Late Night Breakfast
Thursday- Pioneer Prayer Walk
Friday- Root Beer Fest
Saturday- Paint Wars and Slip N’ Slide
Sunday- Movie on the Mall
Monday- Night at the K! (Royals)
Welcome Week is such a fun time to meet new people and have everyone come to ASG’s events. White Light Event was amazing: we had servers passing out horderves, Pearl Mic Project a band playing music, a photo booth, TWO chocolate fountains and Scooter’s Coffee. This is one of our biggest events of the year because it is our first event and it is on the first day of school. Everyone dresses up in black and white and we just have fun catching up on each other’s summers and meeting new people. There might have also been a spontaneous dance party break out.
Another one of my favorites is Root Beer Fest. At this event there is a sand volleyball tournament, root beer floats and everyone gets to keep their mug that their root beer float comes in. ROTC also had a rock wall there people could climb. Even the rain did not stop people from finishing the intense sand volleyball tournament.
Paint Wars was something that we brought back this year and we tweaked a little different. This event is one of the most popular events because who does not like to throw massive amount of paint at people? This year we made it a class competition and of course the SENIORS won!! Shout out to my fellow seniors! We got to keep the golden paint brush and paint tray. The local Olathe Fire Department comes at the end and sprays their huge hose in the air, I’m talking gallons of water, and it is like one huge sprinkler. Kona Ice was also there, which who doesn’t love some shaved ice?!
We also got these cool shirts to wear to paint wars and that have the events and times the event starts for Welcome Week!
Movie on the Mall was my event this year to put on!! We decided on renting Captain America: The Winter Solider. We have massive amounts of candy, kettle corn and pop and everyone brings their blankets, bean bag chairs and pillows. This is such a great event but it is relaxing and everyone just gets to hang out together and watch a movie. It is a nice relaxing night before we have a full week of school again.
I am very sad that it was my last Welcome Week! It is one that allows students to connect with one another before the crazy school year begins. Having an event each night is exhausting but it is so much fun and there are so many great memories that are made during that week that people remember for the rest of the school year.
p.s.– If you have any questions or comments feel free to comment and I will get back with you!
So it is finally SPRING BREAK! Woo! I am going to keep this short for you all, so you can go out and enjoy your break!
A couple of weekends ago I got the opportunity to go to Mother Daughter weekend here at MNU. It was so much fun, and there was a lot of good work put into it! Reflecting on this, it really made me think about how many awesome events we have on campus.
I had a friend come by from another college to visit. She took one look at our calendar in my hall, and said “I wish my school had as much to do.” There are so many people that work to make your years at MNU special. There is always events: hall parties, dances, movie nights, late night munchies, dodgeball tournaments, intramural games, game nights, and so much more!
I think this is by far my favorite part about MNU, and if I could give any advice to upcoming freshman, I would say go to your school’s events! You meet great people and you really get connected to a community!
So it has only been a couple of months since I first moved in on campus and started school. Currently MNU students are on fall break, so I had the chance to meet with some old friends. A lot of them ask about my favorite parts about being in college, which gave me the idea of writing about them in this blog! (Some of these are unique to MNU and others are just about the college life in general)
Here they are, my top ten favorites!
1. Late night Walmart runs!
Walmart runs usually are a last minute decision, and they almost always happen near curfew. My friend Rachel here is stocking up for the week.
2. Eating in Class
The answer is yes, yes you can eat in class in college! This picture is of my breakfast (a devoured blueberry muffin) that I didn’t quite have time for that morning. No worries! Finish it in class!
3. Ice cream machine in Campus Center
I am aware that the last few have been all about food, but what can I say! I’m a college student. This one I’m sure is most students’ favorite.
In college you get many opportunities. They are especially needed on the late night-early morning combination days. (Monday, Wednesday, Friday are my days)
5. Movie nights with your best friends nearly every night!
This has become a daily event in the dorms. Which may not be the best idea on the night before 8 am classes….. but you know!
6. All of the many ASG events!
Thrift Store Prom, White Light Event, Car Bash, Smoovie night, and many many more! There is an event it seems nearly every week. This was at the hoedown last week.
7. Going to a small school…. But not too small
There are many perks to this in my opinion. People you’ve met once remember your name and care about you, yet you can still meet more new people all the time! Another perk is making the website fairly easily. Look at me, I was so ready for that picture.
8. Choosing classes your interested in!
Now of course you have your common core classes you have to take, but you still have options with those. You can choose your schedule, your classes, and overall you just feel very independent! And something I love that is unique to MNU is having professors of those classes that care. You aren’t just a number at MNU, but you matter!
9. Spiritual Life
Chapels at MNU are amazing! You have so many different options throughout the week to experience the Lord. This chapel is from student-led chapel in Bell on Thursday.
MNU gives you opportunities to join small groups as well! This is my girls small group!
10. MEETING SOME LIFE-LONG FRIENDS
These people are some of the greatest I have ever met! I am missing a few, but I truly love all of them!
Anyways that’s my blog for the week…
Thanks for stopping by!

I have been absent. You probably didn’t notice, but I’ll go ahead and humor myself and let you know what’s up.
So in school right now, I’m a teacher’s assistant for the Public Relations class. It’s a chance for me to learn about effective leadership and management and all that important stuff. Last year, I took public relations with Dr. Hamilton. We were split into groups and chose local nonprofit organizations to do benefit events for. Our group of 3 chose the Kansas City Girls home Teen Challenge. (Teen Challenge is an international rehab for people of all ages, this particular home is a residential home for adolescent girls.) We hosted a benefit concert on campus, had this video made and donated, and 3 lovely ladies shared their testimonies at the event. You can watch that video here. (Shout out to Kyle Bloom- AMAZING videographer/pastor/all around great guy.) The concert was hugely successful, over 100 people showed up, and we were hoping and praying and pleading with the Lord for like 25 people to come, even though our goal was 50.
I’ll spare you some boring details, but I came back as a TA this year to work with a group to recreate this event, only make it bigger and better. I have a team of 6 ladies working with me to do just that. The Lord provides in our times of need. ASG (Stuco for colleges) AND the Junior Class Council have partnered with us. Our concert is featuring MNU up and coming band Don’t know Dorothy and worship artist Hurley Christin, who is the worship leader at Mission Church in Overland Park. The girls from Teen Challenge have a choir song they will be singing at our event, and we have 2 girls sharing their stories. Mark your calendars for April 27th in Land Gym. You won’t wanna miss it!
Go to her site! you can listen to her original music and learn more about her. She is amazing!
As I’m leading this project, I am also in Marketing Research. I am in a group of 5 and we are working for a real client too! We are conducting research for the Marketing Office at MNU about the Grad and Adult programs. Pretty cool, right? My role for the team is the focus group coordinator. Again, sparing you the boring details, we basically randomly select 8-12 students who qualify and have a dinner party for them and talk to them about their experiences with the programs and their media habits. (There’s a lot more that goes into it and I probably made it sound more fun that it looks.) …Have you seen the AT&T Commercials? Where the guy asks the kids the questions and then SURPRISE! he asks the retired athletes around the same table? (LOVE those btw) That’s kind of what it looks like… ANYWAY.
So Marketing Research is not my thing. Don’t get me wrong, super valuable, but I’m not good with details, and to be honest you could put any word in front of research and I wouldn’t take to it. Fashion Research. HangingOutWithFriends Research. Fun Research. Get the point? But focus group? talking to people while others take notes? That I’m all over. This project is HUGE, and not just because it’s a project, but because it’s for a client and the information we gather will be used. Yah. The real deal. At the end of the semester we have a 200 page report due. DYING thinking about it!
So throw this into the mix- I’ve been sick for like 10000 years and over spring break the doctors just now figure out the problem is my gallbladder. Not because I have stones, which is normal, but because it just hasn’t been doing what it’s supposed to do and is causing me pain. So normally a low functioning gallbladder is functioning at 35%, mine was at 19%. #SB2013! HOLLA! Being an adult is AWESOME. So last Monday I had the consultation with the surgeon in Oklahoma, then Thursday had it removed, and that brings us to today, when I am on pain medicine, still in Oklahoma. Did I mention the doctor said I should be able to go back to school Monday? yeaaahh not so much. Now I’m waiting for a follow up with the surgeon on Friday. Then maybe I can go back to school. Let me break down how long I’ve been not at school.
Spring Break. Easter Week (when I had my consultation with the surgeon.) This week.
That’s a grand total of 3 weeks. When I was in high school, this was my DREAM. But there’s something special about MNU. Yes, I’m a control freak and want to be doing my projects on my own, but my groups have stepped up and taken over my jobs for the time being. My teachers are nothing but gracious. My friends and REs and Profs and group members and NSLS E-board and pending members and faculty members that I say “hey” to as I’m passing them down the halls have all reached out to me to see if I’m doing okay and let me know that they miss me and can’t wait for me to be back. Andy Blum led a meeting for NSLS because none of the E-board members (myself included) could be there (thanks Andy!) I can’t wait to be back. I miss my classmates and talking to everyone listed. I love my school with my whole heart and just want to be back.
So although I have projects piling up (and that’s just for 2 classes- I have 2 more classes I’m enrolled in!) I’m just ready to be back in the land where the sun rises and sets: The MidAmerica Nazarene University Campus.
Welp. This has been far too long and given too many details.
Over and out!
