Have a little Fun, will ya?

I have been learning some valuable lessons about having fun this last week. It seems like it would be easy, like Oh, of course I know how to have fun, don’t you? But in reality, in the middle of the insanity that is April, I found myself focusing on the stress so much that I nearly forgot how to have fun. Tuesday the Sophomore class council threw a Napoleon Dynamite prom.  It was hosted in the tipping point in the Land Gym building on campus. The movie was playing in the tipping point, there were tater tots in the cafe[…]

When all you need is love but all you have is work

You know there’s a problem when you trudge up the steps of Smith on a Monday morning after having slept for three hours, get to the top of the stairs, realize your 9am class is on the bottom floor, walk down the stairs, realize you’re having small group Bible studies in place of class…and yours is happening in your office…on the top floor, so you sigh and accept your fate and trudge back upstairs only to realize that you left your backpack in the bathroom…downstairs. There is no amount of coffee in the world that can solve April. On top[…]

SEMESTER OR QUARTERS📚🗓

Why are colleges set up differently then others? As in, why are some colleges set up as a quarter system, verse’s some are set up as a semester system? What makes them, so, different from one another? Well, the difference, for those that do not know, a semester is 14 to 16 weeks and a quarter is 6 to 8 weeks. There would be 2 quarters for 1 semester. I go back and forth if, I like semesters or quarter systems better. I like that there is only 8 weeks, which makes it crunch time all the time. I also, like,[…]

Is there life after finals?

Yes. Let’s just clear that up. Finals, for all the bad mojo we attribute them, do at least one really good thing. They help us to realize how much we have learned over the semester. I just want to do a quick review of what I’ve learned this semester. I had to shorten it by quite a bit because life happened this semester and life is hard to summarize. Don’t be afraid to be busy. I was incredibly busy this semester but looking back, I wouldn’t have changed any of it. I had incredible experiences in the Honors Program, on[…]

It’s OK To Feel Down Sometimes

Hey friends! So I wanted to talk about this during mental health awareness week but I obviously missed that chance, but I think that I can tie the subject in pretty well to this upcoming week. “But Isaac!  What are you even talking about?!” I’m glad you asked!  I am talking about depression. “But Isaac!  How does this subject tie into this upcoming week?!” Ok, calm down I’ll tell you. Finals week is stressful.  For some people, probably more than you think, it is a make it or break it time.  For some people, these tests are a matter of[…]

Procrastin…I’ll Get Back to it Later…

T’was the night before finals week and all through the dorms, not a creature was stirring.. except for you because you spent too much time procrastinating and now you have to cram all night. I’m not here to judge, I’ve been doing the same thing all week. And now, I’m here to give you some ideas about what not to do before Monday, just like all your fellow MNU students. 1. Watch Netflix — Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, ChromeCast, whatever you use to watch your favorite reality series or rewatch classics like Friends and Parks and Rec, use it wisely this[…]

Slaying the Stress Monster

This week is insane. It just is. The week before finals everyone either seems to walk around like zombies who have given up on life or are running around like overly caffeinated squirrels trying to get everything done at the last minute. I have taken to switching between the two pretty much on the hour. I would prefer not to talk about the things that are causing me stress (as they are all my fault for putting them off). However, I would absolutely love to talk about the way God has blessed me with ways to keep me sane. For example,[…]

Fall Semester Is Almost Over 📚

There are only two weeks left of our fall semester. We call this period of the semester “crunch time.” This is where a lot of students are trying to do anything and everything to get their letter grade from a B to an A; or for those students struggling to pass that tough class, with a C or better. This is when, students start asking their professors for extra credit, or if there is anything else they can do to get their grade up. A biology professor of mine, ounce said . . . “Why would I trust and spend my hard earned[…]

The Space Between

Hey friends! We are in the home stretch. These next few weeks are going to be tough and stressful for a lot of us.  I know they definitely will be for me!  For me, it’s been a little rough getting back in the groove coming back from Thanksgiving break.  It was like a strange teaser for the moment we all are waiting for…Winter break!   The end of the semester! All the anticipation and excitement isn’t really helping with trying to study for finals and finish all those long term assignments that have been put off to the very last[…]

Terms You Learn in College

Last week it dawned on me that my vocabulary has recently expanded. Upon coming to college, there are several new terms that I’ve had to learn and use in my every day vocabulary. I wanted to share those with you all in hopes that you don’t have to stare blankly back at those would use them on you in your years to come. Love Language: This is the verbal and nonverbal communication between you and your significant other in which you express how you feel. I’d never heard anyone say this until this year…and now everyone does. The hard part is everyone[…]
