Well if you haven’t heard, the football team started off on the right foot, ripping off 3 straight wins to start the season, under our new coach Brian Willmer. Over the last year there has been a lot of turnover with the program, with a new coaching coming in(basically all of them coming from Cali SHOUTOUT!!), a whole new mentality and approach to the game was brought with them. It’s a lot of things to really take in, especially as a player who was part of the old regime that was in place here. Anyway I can’t say enough good things about our coaching staff, of course they want to win games, but it’s not all about football. In the immortal words of Coach Wilmer, “I’m here to build men who lead from the front.” His vision is to build us up as men who can lead the new generation the right way. He wants us to be great fathers and husbands to our families and become leaders in our communities and I’m completely behind him and his dream.
Coach Willmer was a linebacker for UCLA, and one the highlights of his college career was sacking Peyton Manning when Peyton was at Tennessee.
Coach is building something awesome here and I’m glad to be a part of this grand vision of his.
Oh yea before I forget, we got a few break out guys that you guys should keep your eyes on as the season goes on. First of all we got the x-factor Derek Pollox, this man makes some of the most ridiculous plays on the field that you will ever see.
For example, in our first game against McPherson, Pollox had a strip sack (well to me it looked a sack, and the ball popped up) and then somehow caught the ball in mid-air for the interception. Check out our sideline highlights from week 1, it will blow your mind. The play is at 2:41 mark of the video. MNU Week 1 Sideline Highlights You never what he is going to from week to week, but it’s going to be amazing.
Next up, we got the money man Chris Fields,
Chris transferred in the spring and has become one of our best playmakers on offense. It seems like every time we need someone to make a play he steps up to the plate and makes one. With three touchdowns in the our first three games, Chris is turning heads around the conference and making sure everyone knows that the Pioneers are a force to be reckoned with. If you can, make sure that you come out and watch us play, we are doing big things over here, don’t miss out on a chance to be apart of it.
