Last Semester Ever!

January 20, 2015 | By | One Comment

Guys, this is really my last semester ever..

Not sure if I should be happy or sad about this. I have to find a big girl job and can’t skip class anymore. On the plus side, I am going to California tomorrow to meet with all the Student Body Presidents from all the other Nazarene schools to discuss topics students face at each of our schools. I also get to go surfing, so that is a plus! I will be posting a lot of pictures on Instagram so make sure you follow us @mnublogs

We did a Welcome Back Week from Winter Break which consisted of: Tuesday was unlimited bowling, laser tagging and put put at Incredabowl, Wednesday was Late Night Breakfast with pancakes and tater tots and Thursday was Smoovie Night where we watched Mosters University in the Library and drank Smoothie King Smoothies. It was a blast!

Also, keep posted on my blog because another one of our bloggers Katie and I are going to do a blog or a vlog together very very soon!! You won’t want to miss it.

Recess Semester

January 18, 2015 | By | No Comments

Well, here we go.

Just one week into the semester, I’m already getting extremely busy between jobs, blogging, homework, being with friends, and once some choice TV shows come back in a couple of weeks, there’s just no chance. *cough Scandal cough*

With all the stress piling on so quickly, I think it’s time to think about the semester from a more relaxed setting.

 Recess Semester.

Say bye to the real world as another semester begins.

At the start of the semester, things seem great, you’re hanging out, don’t have a lot of work due, staying up late, thinking this isn’t so bad.

Then everything blows up in your face 2 weeks later when 5 things are due within two days and you kept putting it off.

After that, things almost go back to normal, but then, just like clockwork, some drama and gossip work their way into your life.

Just after midterms, you’re feeling like you’re firm on your feet, like you own the world.

Until you fall flat on your face after writing a speech at 2am and giving it at 8am.

In the weeks leading up to finals, you’re finally being diligent, going to the library, studying for all of your classes, and making good grades, and learning lots of cool stuff in classes you didn’t used to think were interesting.

Then finals week hits, and it hits hard.

In the end, you do well in all your classes, and have to say goodbye for a few months to some close friends, but you get to come and do it all again very soon.

I hope you guys enjoyed, and have a good week!

Remember, it’s not that bad.

See you soon,

Christmas Break To Read List (Finals Week Procrastination)

December 8, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hello friends

Soooooo hehehesklgkng :) << I don’t know what that was about… I think I am exhausted.

Well after that terrible example of writing…. How are you?  How’s it going?  How’s your week?  If I am being completely honest with you, the only reason I am surviving this week is because I know it will all be over soon and it will be Christmas break!  Finals are here, as I am sure all of you are aware.  I mean you either are the student complaining on social media or you know at least one college or high school student who is complaining on social media.

So last year I wrote a blog post on study tips… And honestly I should really begin to take my own advice. This year I figured I would hold on tight to what is getting me through to the end… Everything I am going to do over Christmas break (because that’s rational).

And by everything I mean read and watch Netflix.

So I wrote a list of all the books I want to read that I definitely will not finish or even get close to finishing.  BECAUSE when you are in school, you spend all your time reading for class.  So breaks are for all the fun reads.

So here you go… My book list:

1. Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen (I read this in high school, but I didn’t take it seriously.  I watched the movie this weekend and I haven’t stopped dreaming of Mr. Darcy since)

2. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (This is a reread… I just watched the movie and I need to let myself heal again by finishing the story)

3. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling (I know I’ll get a lot of hate for this, but I have never read the books or seen the movies… I honestly don’t even know what the first one is called so I just wrote Harry Potter *shoulder shrug*) (P.S. I realize I am a little late on the bandwagon)

4. To Live is Christ To Die is Gain by Matt Chandler & Jared C. Wilson (This is another I started and didn’t finish but would really love to! It was so good and challenging from what I started to read from it)

5. Jesus is greater than Religion by Jefferson Bethke (I watch his youtube videos and he is super smart! I’ve been meaning to read his book! Also it is supposed to be the greater than sign but it changes the sign into something else when I publish this… ugh technology)

6. Strengths Finder by Tom Rath (This book guides you into finding your strengths! Interesting!)

And then if you must know my Netflix list:

1. Grey’s Anatomy (I am on season 8)

2. Downton Abbey (I am on season 3)

3. The Office (I have seen every episode..)

Isn’t deciding what you are going to do with all your extra time on Christmas break so much more enjoyable?! Also it is a bit of stress reliever.

Stay sane friends!

Thanks for stopping by

P.S. This picture I posted on instagram from the mayor’s Christmas tree lighting over Thanksgiving break.

Christmastime in Spin 105

November 10, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hello friends!

So today I have a little video because well…. We decorated for Christmas!  Yes it’s early, yes it’s ridiculous. The way I see it, we only have 2 weeks of school after Thanksgiving and that isn’t near enough time to enjoy it.  So we went all out early.

Also there is some randomness at the end that I cannot explain, literally that is Spindle 105 (#spin105).

Anyways have a good week and be filled with the Christmas spirit a “bit” early…

Thanks for stopping by

Homecoming Craziness!

October 26, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hi y’all! Yes I said y’all cause I’m from Topeka, Kansas and I just love the word.

Like all of my blogger friends have said, it has been a crazy Homecoming week! Homecoming is always a fun time of the year. Each day of the week we had themes and I’m now going to tell you what they were:

Monday – 90’s/Demin Day

Tuesday – Favorite Disney Character (I was Elsa, just picture it)

Wednesday – “We wear pink on Wednesdays”/Boys wore black

Thursday – Western Day!

Friday – Favorite sports team day (Royals of course)

It was so much fun to see all the different costumes and people having a great time with it! What’s even better is the weather this week has been close to absolutely perfect. I’m currently sitting outside in the beautiful, eighty degree weather and I love it.
I did not attend the Homecoming banquet, but I did go to the car bash/hoedown on Thursday and failed at dancing every single time. I just cannot dance. It’s so sad. The only song I could actually dance to was the Cha-Cha Slide and that’s because the song tells you what to do. I still got to wear my boots, though! I ended up going home Friday after classes so I missed the banquet at Uptown, but from what I heard, everyone that went had a blast.

Saturday was my favorite part… the Homecoming football game!! Gosh I love football. It was against Baker and it was a well-played game by both teams. We tied the game 27-27 and went into overtime. We pulled through and got the final touchdown winning the game 34-27. It was a happy moment for us Pioneers. I’m the kind of girl that will stay until the very end of the game even if it’s pouring down rain or -5 degrees outside. To all who left early, you missed out on a great game!

Later Saturday evening was our last Homecoming event at Emerald City. It was a gymnastics place that was pretty much an adult playhouse. Like, jungle gyms and everything! It was legit. They had a gigantic rock wall, a foam pit, a carpet slide, and trampolines! My favorite part was the foam pit. I left with a headache and now I have a million bruises all over, but it was totally worth it.

Overall, I had an amazing week and I hope you all did as well! I’ll leave you with a little advice… it’s very wise to have a phone case. I’ve gone an entire week now without a phone because I dropped it on cement outside the dorms. It was tragic. But if that’s been the only struggle this week, I can live with that. So, don’t take off your phone cases ladies and gents! You will regret it.

Do something crazy this week and enjoy it!

Midterms, WHAT?

October 20, 2014 | By | One Comment

Hey guys!

I’m a little late posting this week, but I promise I won’t leave ya hangin’ any longer! It’s been an eventful weekend involving buying a new laptop (which I absolutely love) and studying for midterms. YIKES.

It’s that time in the semester when us Pioneers are getting bombarded with beautiful midterm exams and stress levels out the wazoo. I am writing today to give some (what I hope will be helpful) tips on how to survive your first semester of college:

1) Make Friends! Community is important here at MNU because we all wanna love each other. This isn’t high school anymore so the whole clique thing? Yeah, leave that in high school. There are so many unique and fun personalities here on campus and it’s easy to find your place. Friends help take the ease off of the stresses of school because whether it’s a late-night Applebee’s run, messing around in Wal-Mart, or making use of open-dorm time, fun time is needed. But don’t abuse it!

First football game!

2) STUDY! This is kind of important. This also ties into my next point too, but we’ll get there soon. Make time for yourself in your schedule to study. You may be able to study with a group or by yourself, but either way, do not forget to do it! I’m not talking half an hour, more like 3 hours per class. That’s a lot, but it’ll be worth it when you receive that A+ on that Pre-Calc test you’ve hoped and dreamed for your entire life.

3) Don’t forget to call your mother. She’ll want to hear from you because I bet she misses you like crazy. Just because you’re out of the house and it may seem like you’re suddenly free, you’ll find yourself maybe craving some parental advice every now and then (I know I have). Your parents know a thing or two about life and whenever you struggle with those silly boys or you have a test you’re freaking out about, they might have a bit of helpful advice for ya. Don’t take them for granted because they are there to help you!

4) Nap time is the best time. Just like the studying thing, make time for a nice nap. It’ll save your life. Well, maybe not, but they help. Sleeping in general makes a tremendous difference in how your day goes. Nobody likes a being around a cranky person so get some sleep and you’ll rock the world.

5) DON’T PROCRASTINATE. We’ve all heard it before. It’s time to take it seriously. I still struggle with this, but hey, I’m learning too. Sometimes you have to say no to that late-night Applebee’s run every once in awhile in order to get your stuff done. If you have a test on Monday, don’t study Sunday night. Bad idea. I speak from experience. It’s just not smart. In high school, if you procrastinated, you could still do alright… In college, if you procrastinate or just not get it done, you’re done for. Good luck.

6) Eat. Gosh I love food. Just ask my friends, they’ll tell ya that I bring food to every class. Food just makes me so happy. Anyways, Campus Center is there for a reason, don’t skip meals or miss out on Bacon Friday. IT’S WORTH IT. And we can’t forget about Spicy Chicken Thursday either. Mmm. Delish.

*mouth waters*

7) Exercise. Don’t stop reading just cause I said the “E” word. Freshman 15 is a thing and if you don’t want it to be a thing for you, venture on down to Land Gym and get a nice workout in because food babies grow fast. With all that good food in Campus Center, you’ll need a solid hour of exercise each day, unless you’re an athlete. I won’t even talk about how much they exercise. Yeesh.

8) PRAY. God’s got you. If you’re struggling with something, simply let Him know. Life will get you down, even here. That test you’re stressed out about? Give it to Him. That girl or boy who doesn’t notice you? Don’t worry, God’s got the right person in mind for you. Want to quit your job? Ask God to give you grace and patience and maybe a better attitude going into it. Prayer helps because as alone as you may feel, God is available 24/7 to listen to what you need.

That’s all I have this Sunday, but I hope you lovelies have a fantastic week ahead! Stay gold!

One Month Down, And Many More to Go!

September 29, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hello friends!

I am back and at it again! I am now an official sophomore at MNU and I am quite enjoying myself (besides the endless amounts of homework).  We are about a month into school now and so much has went down!  Here are some top memories to keep you up to date!

Above the title picture are my lovely and beautiful suitemates on the first day of school! That day we were really excited, and its been all downhill since ;).  My friend Rachel is in the nursing program so she is extra excited and extra stressed.

This is my childhood best friend Annie! We came to MNU together last year and I am so thankful for her! This us at ASG’s White Light Event. We downed melted chocolate and had some very classy conversations of course.

MNU at the K!  This is my friend Dan Wright. He would hate me for putting this picture up, but he refuses to read my blogs so hopefully he’ll never see it :).

MNU tailgate at the first home football game! My sister came to visit (she’s in the middle) and it was soooo fun! We love having a winning football team!

And lastly a much needed picture of Thrift Store Prom is below.  We got are tacky on (I wore a jumpsuit) and skated at Skate City.  It was a blast!

There is sooo much more in store for this year!  God has really laid a lot of things on my heart that I can’t wait to share with you all! Also some fun things too :)  Right now I am trying to enjoy every minute of my college experience because one day I will wake up and it will be over :( These are some of the best years of your life!  You get to live with your best friends, go to crazy events, yell at sporting events, and attend chapel multiple times a week.  So if you’re in school don’t wish it away, if you’re in high school don’t wish it away (but do know college is pretty amazing! especially if you go to MNU hint hint), if you are in your early part of your career don’t wish it away!  Take the time to learn and grow, to make memories, and to see the opportunities God has for you now. God doesn’t need you to be at a certain stage of your life to use you, He uses you just as you are!

Thanks for stopping by!

Follow the Red Brick Road

September 25, 2014 | By | No Comments

My junior year of high school, I came to S.C.O.U.T. (Students Checking Out University Turf) at MNU. This was my first college visit, and honestly, I had no intention of attending MNU. I just came because I wanted an excuse to check out what college life is like, and my best friend was going. Plus, my youth leader attended college at MNU and she really wanted me to check it out.

“This place is cool, but there’s no way I can afford it.”

That’s what was going through my mind all of my junior year. Through that college visit, I really came to like MNU and even thought I wanted to go there. It felt like an unattainable dream to me. Like, maybe I was supposed to be there, but there was no possible way it would work out.

The rest of my junior year and my senior year were spent going on college visits, trying to find a place that sparked my interest the way MNU does. (Spoiler alert: I didn’t find it.)

Fast forward to spring of my senior year, when all of my friends were enrolled in the college of their choice, while I was playing a sick game of “eenie-meenie-miney-mo” with a few schools that I could afford. Each time I thought I had reached a decision, I would soon find myself back where I started.

During this time, I had this (inaccurate) thought in my head that God has a specific plan for my life, which includes a specific college and career, and if I don’t get it right there’s no hope for me. I thought there was a specific road I had follow, and if I didn’t, I would mess everything up.

We’ve all heard the famous Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11. Chances are it was on at least half of the graduation cards you got.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

While struggling with finding my “plan” that God has for me, He spoke to me through the verses that follow Jeremiah 29:11.

“Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:12-13

Maybe God’s plan for our lives isn’t about where we go to school, what we major in, or even what our careers end up being. Maybe His plan for our lives is to seek Him with all our hearts. I think God has a plan for all of us, and that plan is for us to grow into a deep relationship with Him, and through that, give glory to Him.

I’m not saying that God doesn’t have specific plans for some of us. I do believe that God calls certain people to walk down certain roads that lead to a specific college, major, or career. But, instead of stressing about if we’re on the path that God wants us to be on, we should make decisions that best glorify Him. We can’t go wrong in doing that.

So, in the midst of trying not to mess up God’s plan for my life, I realized that God’s plan for my life is to glorify Him in every decision that I make.

I went to S.C.O.U.T. again my senior year, still sure that I couldn’t afford MNU. The only reason I went was to hang out with some of my friends that I had met the previous year. To be honest, I didn’t even go to some of the events I was supposed to attend. (Sorry, MNU)

On that second visit, I felt peace. The kind of peace that can’t be ignored. This peace was from God. I knew that I needed to talk to admissions, look for more scholarships, and at least TRY to make MNU a possibility in my life.

After many late nights of praying, pros-and-cons lists, phone calls with my admissions counselor, and meetings with my parents…

I am a Pioneer.

The peace that I feel about this decision is my proof that this is where God wants me. For now, MNU is the road that God has me going on. There will undoubtedly be forks in the road and maybe even a few u-turns, but I believe that God will lead me. I don’t know if I’ll stick with my major and I don’t know exactly what I want to do with my life, but I do know one thing. I know that instead of trying so desperately to figure out God’s plan for my entire life, I should simply pray about it and make decisions that will bring glory to Him.

I believe that’s God’s plan for our lives.

The awesome people I met at S.C.O.U.T. My best friend and I are on the right.

7×7 Challenge

April 28, 2014 | By | No Comments

Hey Blog World!

Here is a video from a cool academic event on campus called 7×7 Challenge. 7 Professors had 7 minutes to discuss an area of study that interested them, and then we in the audience voted on the most interesting or our favorite presentation. I included clips from every speaker and a few funny moments. Hope you enjoy!
