resting, snow days, and the Baker game

Hello friends!

So let me just jump into things…lately, I’ve discovered that you have to do a lot of reading in college. Crazy, I know. ;] I didn’t fully grasp that fact until this semester when i got bombarded with 4 huge textbooks that I need to read to be able to do well in my classes. And it’s true, I know personally for me, if I read (and really read my books, not just skim over them) I will definitely better my understanding of what the professor is teaching in the class. Weird how it works that way…I mean, who reads anyways? Just kidding. I know that there are a lot of people that enjoy reading. I enjoy it at times, but if I’m really not too passionate about the subject, its hard for me to read the material. But it also says in Gods word that whatever we do, whether in word or in deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. sometimes its difficult to have that attitude about schoolwork, but I feel that that’s the attitude that Christ would want me to have towards it.

Anyways. So lately I have been kind of overwhelmed just thinking about the work load that I have.  At the same time, I don’t want to get too overwhelmed and instead, be balanced in managing my time. Which also means taking time to rest occasionally. But you see, this is hard when this culture has convinced us that we have to be entertained and doing something every single second of every day. And you know what, we really don’t have to! It’s actually really okay to just do nothing. I’m not saying be lazy and sit around all the time, I’m saying that with this constant entertainment surrounding us, we can be so consumed with having to do things all the time and have a constant desire to be entertained. Managing your time well is always great, and getting things done and being diligent in your work is even better. But I think that taking the time to rest and be able to recap is extremely important. I also believe that this lines up with scripture.

Another thing I’ve learned about myself while being in college is that i really stink at time management. I also am really bad at saying no to people. I think that can be a good quality and a bad quality. A good one because the fact that I can’t say no to things can really open up more opportunities that i maybe wouldn’t have had if i had said no. But on the other hand, i can get carried away with saying yes to everything and end up being extremely overwhelmed. I know we’ve probably all experienced this at some point in our life. I know It happens to me almost daily! College has really stretched me in a way in which I have had to be conscious about who and what I’m saying yes to and how I’m managing my time. It is especially difficult to balance doing activities out of school and also being diligent in getting homework done and taking time to read.

So guys, I just thought I’d share a little bit about what college has taught me so far. I know there are so many things I am still learning, and are yet to learn, but for now I hope this was good insight to you guys in some way.

Also……

Tomorrow is supposed to snow a lot, so that means, SNOW DAY FOR MNU! When all of campus found out we were having a snow day, it pretty much felt like the world was going to end. Everyone started franticly rushing to Wall-Mart to prepare to be stuck in their rooms for days. I think all of us at MNU are actually hoping that we are stuck in our rooms for days. Maybe because we have procrastinated studying for the 4 tests that we have this week. THIS. WEEK. And you never know, they just might all fall on the same day. Which does happen quite often.

So yeah! Thanks for stopping by, comment if you would like, but until next time,

-Heather Rose :]

P.S. the video at the top is of the Baker vs. MNU game that we had last Thursday. WE WON by the way. :] but this was the half time show, and it was really odd, but really funny. So you should definitely watch it! :]
