KAEA Award 2013 So Choi

So Choi, art teacher at Leawood Middle School in the Blue Valley (Kan.) School District, has been named Outstanding Middle Level Art Educator of the Year 2013-2014. Choi is a 2009 MNU graduate with a Master of Education degree. The Kansas Art Education Association (KAEA) will officially present the award at its fall conference October 25 in Overland Park, Kan.

“So Choi is the first person to volunteer," writes one of her colleagues. "Her energy is endless."

Choi’s energy and enthusiasm for teaching are evident in the numerous
exhibitions and contests in which her students participate, including Youth Art Month and Pinwheels for Peace. Choi also provides her students with several after school enrichment opportunities like SMArt (Science, Math, Art) Club, Photography Club, and Art Club.

She also demonstrates exemplary leadership within her school community by serving on her school’s leadership team and presenting numerous professional development workshops, particularly technology-based workshops.

The Kansas Art Education Association is a statewide professional organization dedicated to the growth and development of art educators and the advancement of high quality art education.
