Drummonds to Serve as Honorary Co-Chairs of MNU Gala

Feb. 15, 2017 - by Carol Best

MidAmerica Nazarene University announced that long-time community leaders, Dr. Bob and Julie Drummond, are the honorary co-chairs of the 2017 President’s Honors, MNU’s annual gala. President’s Honors raises support for student scholarships and is set for April 7, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in Cook Center on MNU’s Olathe Campus. Over the past five years generous donors have contributed $2.5 million to the gala. This year organizers hope to bring the total raised to more than $3 million.

Bob Drummond is an accomplished CEO, educator, fundraiser, counselor, consultant and community leader. Julie is a retired public school teacher having taught at Northview Elementary school in Olathe for 19 years.

The Drummonds' relationship with MNU began in 1971 when Bob and Julie were hired to be resident directors in the men’s dorms. During this time Bob completed doctoral studies in counseling psychology at the University of Kansas. By 1974, Bob was named director of counseling services at MNU and developed its first counseling center. Through ensuing years Bob would serve as an administrator, professor and department chair, and finally vice president for campus life at MNU, before transitioning in 2001 to take the helm of KidsTLC in Olathe, where he was president and CEO until he retired in 2014.

During his career, Bob has served on the Olathe School District Board of Education for 18 years, holding the office of president four years. He has also served on the boards of 10 organizations including Johnson County Community College, United Way of Greater Kansas City and the Olathe Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his doctorate in counseling psychology and higher education leadership, he has completed a post-doctoral certificate from the Institute for Educational Management from Harvard University.

“We’re humbled and honored to serve as this year’s honorary co-chairs for President’s Honors,” Bob said. “The value of having MNU in Olathe is immeasurable. So many of Olathe’s civic leaders, teachers, doctors, nurses, public servants, business owners and other citizens have benefitted from an MNU education. We want to do whatever we can to help the university assist more students to have that experience.”

President’s Honors will feature an elegant dinner, live and silent auctions, entertainment and celebrations of generosity that directly impact students’ education. Several individuals and businesses have lent their support as sponsors of the event, including Webb & Associates, Olathe Medical Center and the Olathe Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets for the gala start at $100 and are available for groups and individuals. Sponsorships at varying levels are available as well. Visit www.presidentshonors.org for ticket and sponsor information.
