Ministry Leadership Institute for High School Students Taking Applications

Feb. 15, 2017 - by Carol Best

Applications are open for The Call, a one-week ministry leadership institute held June 5-9 or 12-16. Pastors, professors and others in ministry will lead high school juniors and seniors in an exciting week meant to help them discover what their call means and equip them for the beginning of their ministries.

The Call features daily individual and corporate worship, theological training, biblical instruction, service learning and fun activities around Kansas City. Participants will enjoy living on campus in residence halls, eating on campus and meeting new people.

The one-week institute is available for the cost of $95 and includes food, lodging, workshops and all materials. Applications are open now for either week at mnuthecall.org. Organizers say the institute may fill quickly so participants are urged to apply early.

Institute Leadership

Ron Jackson, assistant professor of youth ministry at MNU, directs the institute and brings more than 30 years of experience in ministry to the project. Jackson has earned degrees from Jefferson Davis College, The University of Alabama, Trevecca Nazarene University, Nazarene Theological Seminary and is currently a doctoral candidate in ethical leadership at Olivet Nazarene University. A popular speaker for workshops, retreats and camps, Jackson has a heart for ministry, youth and those who are searching for their calling in life.

Ed Belzer is institute chaplain and resident associate pastor. Belzer has 26 years of youth pastor experience and has held several leadership positions for denominational organizations and for mission trips. Belzer is a frequent retreat and camp speaker. He is an MNU alum and holds an advanced degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary

Chris and Kristin Gilmore are housing directors and residence life hosts for The Call. As ministers in Corbin, Kentucky, the Gilmores have experience in church leadership, women’s ministry and missions. Chris’ writing, which challenges Christians and non-Christians alike, is frequently featured on The Huffington Post.

With 24 years of youth ministry experience, Larry Page is activity director for The Call. Page has a double major bachelor's degree from MNU and a master’s degree from Baker University. His ministry passion is to lead students to Christ, help them mature in their faith, develop them as student/spiritual leaders and launch them to serve others in Jesus' name.

Other leadership team members include Joseph Dagostino, senior pastor in residence, and Ryan and Ashley Gage, worship leaders. Read bios here.

The Call is made possible by a $600,000 Lilly Endowment’s High School Youth Theology Institutes initiative, which seeks to encourage young people to explore theological traditions, ask questions about the moral dimensions of contemporary issues and examine how their faith calls them to lives of service. MNU received the grant in December 2015.
