MNU’s 42nd Annual Commencement Held May 11 & 12
Family and friends rejoiced with graduates a MidAmerica Nazarene University’s 42nd annual commencement ceremonies May 11 and 12, 2013. The university held two ceremonies, one for its Professional and Graduate Studies Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. and the other for Traditional Undergraduate Studies Sunday, May 12 at 4 p.m.
MNU President Dr. David J. Spittal, spoke at the Professional and Graduate Studies Commencement and Dr. Elmer L. Gillett, senior pastor of Community Worship Center Church of the Nazarene in Brooklyn, N.Y., was the speaker at the Traditional Undergraduate Studies ceremony.
Awards given at the ceremonies included Dr. Ruth Waggoner, principal of Heatherstone Elementary School in Olathe, Kan., who received the Robert I. Brower award in recognition for excellence as an adjunct professor in the Master of Education program. Waggoner is a 1981 graduate of MNU with an undergraduate degree in elementary education. Marshall Cloud, a biology major from San Diego, Calif., and Chelsea Coffey, an organizational administration major from Wynne, Ark., both traditional seniors, received the American Heritage Award, MNU’s highest honor for undergraduates.
