MNU Offers Kauffman FastTrac® Entrepreneur Education

Aug. 21, 2012 - by Carol Best

MidAmerica Nazarene University will begin offering Kauffman FastTrac courses to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs on Sept. 13, 2012.  FastTrac® NewVenture™, for persons starting a new business, and FastTrac® GrowthVenture, for entrepreneurs in established businesses, will be taught through MNU’s Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership & Research.

Dr. Graydon Dawson, professor in MNU’s School of Business, spearheaded the effort to bring the curriculum to the university. A FastTrac alumnus who started his own consulting firm, Dawson says the programs are phase one of MNU’s plan to help a variety of new businesses get started and help established businesses grow. Eventually the university hopes to become a resource for the entrepreneurial community and a business incubator.

“What more important focus could a School of Business have than stimulating the establishment and growth of start-up companies?” Dawson said.

Kauffman FastTrac was created by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the largest foundation in the world devoted to entrepreneurship. Alana Muller, president of Kauffman FastTrac says entrepreneurs come from all walks of life and are vital to the economy.

“Research consistently indicates that entrepreneurs and their startups are the primary drivers of economic growth and new jobs in today’s economy,” Muller said.

Dawson says the 10-week courses are taught by FastTrac certified facilitators in face-to-face evening classes from 6-9 p.m., one night a week. No prerequisite level of education is required and students may enroll online at mnu.affiliate.fasttrac.org. For more information about Kauffman FastTrac visit fasttrac.org.
