Sondra L. Cave, Ed.D.

Dr. Sondra Cave is currently the founder/creator of Strengths and Leadership Consulting. She spent the last 18 years at MidAmerica Nazarene University (Olathe, KS) serving in student affairs, administrative roles, as a professor and chair of the Sociology department, and directing the First Year Experience program. She earned her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University.  For her dissertation research, she studied the transition of students from high school to college and the effects of a strengths-based first year program on students’ academic motivation.

Dr. Cave is also a Higher Education Consultant with the Gallup Organization. As a consultant, she trains faculty, staff and students at Colleges/Universities to discover their strengths and also helps them to use the strengths-oriented approach to education using StrengthsQuest.   She has been using StrengthsQuest in the freshman seminar program curriculum at MNU.  Dr. Cave has been recognized by the Gallup organization with the “Strengths-Architect” Award for her work writing strengths curriculum and training seminars, advocating for people to discover their God-given talents, and training others. Sondra has been involved with the Gallup Organization and strengths development since 2001.  Additionally, Gallup has named her one of the top 20 national “strengths educators” and appointed her as a “strengths advisor.” In this role, she assists with strategic planning for Gallup’s strengths educator program and the Clifton Strengths School.

In addition to her work in higher education, she also facilitates strengths training for managers, leaders and teams in corporate settings, for pastors, staff and board members of churches, and has worked with human resources to establish a strengths approach to performance management and evaluation.

A gifted communicator, Dr. Cave is a frequent speaker for colleges and community events, leadership seminars, conferences, retreats, women’s ministry events, and churches. She and her husband, Bob, are the founders of Family University designed to offer family-centered education to their community.  They have two children and 6 grandchildren.  She enjoys time spent with family, traveling, and is an avid sports fan.
