Accelerated Elementary Education Program at MidAmerica Nazarene University

Requirements

  • Completed application and essay
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA (cumulative)
  • CBASE exam with minimum score of 235
  • Associate's (AA/AS) degree OR 60+ credit hours OR Bachelor's (BS/BA) degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Technology Competency Survey

Program prerequisites

In addition to the basic program requirements listed above, we have additional requirements depending on if you already have a bachelor's degree.

No Bachelor's Degree?

Program requirements if you have a Bachelor's Degree:

Applicants who already hold an associate’s or bachelor’s degree must complete the requirements and pre-requisites below in order to be accepted into the Elementary Education program.

Bachelor's Degree (Licensure Only Path)

  • Public Speaking with a grade of “B-” or better
  • Lifespan Development

Associate's Degree (Degree Seeking Path)

  • Biblical Perspectives
  • Public Speaking with a grade of “B-” or better
  • Lifespan Development

Program requirements if you do NOT yet have a Bachelor's Degree:

Highly motivated applicants with 60+ transferrable credit hours must fulfill the general education course requirements listed below. Many of these general ed courses can be completed at MNU, or you can work with an advisor to transfer in these courses from a regionally-accredited college or university.

General Education Courses

  • Critical Thinking (includes College Algebra or proficiency, Math for the Elementary Teacher II)—6-9 credit hours
  • Effective Communication (Public Speaking with a grade of “B-” or better, English Comp I and II)—9 credit hours
  • Social Responsibility (US History to 1877, US History since 1877, World Civilizations or Geography)—9 credit hours
  • Scientific Literacy (Principles of Biology, Physics OR Chemistry, Earth Space Science)—9 credit hours
  • Aesthetic Literacy (Intro to Fine Arts, Intro to Literature, AND/OR any approved aesthetic literacy course)—6 credit hours
  • Self-Understanding (Lifespan Development-3 hours AND Health & Fitness-2 hours)—5-6 credit hours
