presents the2010 Summer Literacy Institute
Our 2010 institute offers–Dar Hosta, award-winning children’s author & illustrator-in-residence who will give 3 inspiring keynote talks! Breakout sessions alongside the author will focus on Kansas & Missouri State Reading & Writing Standards. Sessions, activities, & materials will include:
*30 Poems in 30 Days (Writing & Fluency Standards) *Making & Reading Books with Kids (Phonics Standards) *Hand-painting paper for collage & collage techniques for kids *Cultivating Creativity (Writing instruction for State Standards) *Nature Writing & Literature in the Garden (Session held in an outdoor children’s garden by a literacy professor who is JMG Garden Librarian.) *Collaborative writing & illustrating: Collage, the Art Medium for ALL! *Journals with Kids (Composition Standards) *Each participant will receive an institute handout, journal, “art goody bag”, and a signed copy of one of Dar’s books!
Multiple Types of Professional Development Credits Available for Teachers: 1. Professor will sign for PDC points on Day 3 of Institute.2. Two (2) MNU Continuing Education Credit (CEC) available. 3. Three (3) MNU Graduate credits available via concurrent enrollment of 2010. Summer Online Advanced Children’s Literature course with registration of Literacy Institute.
