Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Who must register a motor vehicle?

A. Any member of the University Community, a student or non-student who RESIDES, DRIVES, and PARKS a vehicle on campus must register said vehicle with the Campus Police Department.

Q. Does each vehicle I drive have to be registered separately?

A. Yes. Each vehicle must be registered separately and validated by obtaining and properly displaying the current official parking permit sticker.

Q. How soon must a motor vehicle be registered?

A. All vehicles must be registered within forty-eight (48) hours after arrival on campus. Parking permits must be properly attached to the vehicle within twenty-four (24) hours of issue to be valid.

Q. What if I have to borrow a friends car or have a rental vehicle?

A. Temporary permits are available at the Campus Police Office. A temporary permit is $1.00 for up to four weeks. It can be renewed in one wekk intervals for $1.00 per additional week.

Q. Where do I register my vehicle?

A. Registration is provided as a service to the students during the fall and spring registrations in the registration line. Thereafter, you may come to the Campus Police Office located in the Campus Center.

Q. What information do I need to register my vehicle?

A. Make, model, style, and color of each vehicle. Also the license plate number, and insurance provider. Your driver's license number and chapel ID. Campus Police will need to see your valid driver's license and a copy of your current insurance information.

Q. How much does it cost to register my vehicles?

A. If you register the vehicle(s) at the time of registration for the semester there is no fee. To register after that time or to get a new or replacement sticker there is a $3.00 charge per sticker.

Q. Where can I park?

A. Parking lots are color coded by parking permit colors. Lots are reserved from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Q. If I get a ticket, where do I pay it?

A. In the cashiers office which is located in Lunn. They are open from 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Q. When does it have to be paid?

A. No student will be allowed to register for further classes until outstanding fines are paid.

Q. How do I appeal a ticket?

A. You may get an appeal form in the Campus Police Office. Fill it out and attach the ticket in the appropriate place and leave it with the Campus Police office. An appeals committee will review the appeal and render a decision. Their decision is final. It usually takes from 7-10 days to get their response.

Q. How much do the tickets cost?

A. Most parking and permit violations are on a progressive scale. The first one is $5, the second is $10, and the third is $15. Any additional citations increase in $5 increments. However, after the fourth citation of the same or similar violation during the academic year, could result in suspension of driving privileges on campus and revoked parking permit. Tickets for unauthorized parking in Handicapped Places and the Fire Lane are $50.00 per violation.

 

Q. Do I have to register my bike?

A. Yes!  If you have a bicycle on campus, you need to register it with the Campus Police Office.  Your bicycle permit is valid for your four years here at MNU and is totally free!  A bike is not legally registered unless the permit is attached to the bike.   All bicycles left on campus over the summer will be collected and all unregistered bikes will be considered abandoned and will be disposed of accordingly.

Q. Are vehicles towed?

A. Yes. When a fourth similar violation is issued, Campus Police may have the vehicle towed at the owner's expense. If a vehicle belonging to a student that has lost parking privileges is on campus, it may be towed at the owner's expense. If a vehicle is parked in a fire lane or blocking an entrance or exit it may be towed at the owner's expense.

Q. Who do I call if I am locked out of my room/car?

A. If you are locked out of your room, call your roommate, RA, or your RE. If none of them are available, you may call Campus Police and an officer will come as soon as possible.

Q. What if my car won't start?

A. You can call Campus Police. We will respond and attempt to jumpstart your vehicle. You will have to sign a waiver first.

Q. What do I do if I am in an accident on campus?

A. Call the Campus Police office at 3299. If there are any injuries advise them so they can call necessary emergency personnel. Do not move vehicles. An officer will come and do a report.

Q. What if I have something stolen?

A. Call the Campus Police office and an officer will take a report. An investigation will be conducted in an attempt to recover your property. Being able to provide serial numbers (if available) will help identify your property if located.

Q. Will an officer escort me if I do not feel comfortable walking by myself?

A. Yes. Call extension 3299. An officer will be happy to walk with you to your destination.
