Requirements for Completing Your Financial Aid Application
Document Requests
Each student needs to monitor the documents required to complete his or her financial aid file. This is possible by logging in to the student’s MNU account access. Follow the financial aid menu to the “My Requirements and Eligibility” page. This web page will allow the student to see a list of documents needed in order to complete the financial aid file. There are links provided for the forms that should be printed and completed. The student will want to take note of the document status column. Some documents must go through a review process before they are considered complete. This will be indicated in the status column for the student to know the progress of the financial aid file. Feel free to contact our office if you believe you have turned in documents that are not reflected in the system.
Student Loan Counseling
A student planning to borrow a Federal Stafford Loan for the first time through MNU must complete a Student Loan Counseling Entrance Interview.
A student planning to borrow a Federal Perkins Loan for the first time through MNU must complete a Perkins Loan Counseling Interview with the MNU Student Financial Services Office. Meeting times will be scheduled at the beginning of each semester and students will be notified via their MNU email address.
Promissory Notes
The first time a student borrows a Federal Stafford Loan through MNU, (s)he is required to choose a lender and sign a (new) Master Promissory Note (MPN) with the lender of their choice. The MPN will be valid for up to 10 years, provided the same lender is used for subsequent loans.
The first time a student borrows a Federal Perkins Loan, the Master Promissory Note, Truth-in-Lending Statement, and Rights & Responsibilities will be available to sign at the Perkins Loan Counseling Interview.
Financial Aid Notification
Students will be notified by the Office of Student Financial Services once they have been offered a financial aid award package. Students may be required to accept some forms of financial aid before our office can further process the financial aid request. Follow the instructions in your notification in order to complete the acceptance process.
Notification will be provided to students as follows:
- First-time students to MNU will have their award notification sent to their residence. This will provide the MNU PIN needed to log in to their on line MNU account.
- Returning students will be notified through their MNU email account. Students must be sure to check their MNU email account on a regular basis. This is often the quickest and most efficient method of providing students with information they need!
