Salutation (to a specific person, when possible)

Opening Paragraph: State why you are writing. Name the position or type of work for which you are applying, and mention how you heard of the opening or organization. 

Middle Paragraph(s): Explain why you are interested in working for this employer and specify your reasons for pursuing this type of work. Mention any relevant work experience or related education, but do not reiterate your entire résumé. Emphasize any skills you have that relate to the position. Express yourself confidently, and remember that the reader will view your letter as a sample of your writing skills.

Closing Paragraph: You may refer the reader to your enclosed résumé or whatever media you will use to demonstrate your training, interests, and experience. Use the closing to set the stage for your interview by indicating the actions you will take next. You might state that you will follow up your letter with a phone call to their office to set up an interview.
