The youth and family ministry program at MNU prepares you for full-time ministry by laying a foundation of Biblical truth and theological understanding. You’ll get hands-on training in area churches and Christian organizations that involve you in transformation and helps you equip others for youth ministry in a family context.
This program meets all requirements to become ordained in the Church of the Nazarene and prepares you for ordination in many other denominations as well.
MNU is located in a national hub of youth ministry. Kansas City is home to the Global Ministry office of the Nazarene Youth International, the Youthfront organization, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes national offices and the Kansas City Urban Youth Center. Though a partnership with Youth Specialities Academic Support Network (YSASN),
students have access to additional resources and experiences designed to equip the next generation of youth workers. There are many opportunities to work in any of these diverse organizations.
There are many scholarship opportunities for Youth and Family Ministry majors. Ministry students have the potential of receiving roughly $20,000 in financial assistance over four years, significantly minimizing debt and easing the transition into ministry. In fact, all freshmen receive a $1250 their first semester and another $1250 scholarship once they pass the Introduction to Ministry course. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors can apply for the Ministry Student Internship Program ($4500-$7500/year) or General Ministry Scholarships ($500-$3000/year).
"My favorite courses at MidAmerica were my two semesters of Church History. My eyes were opened to the ways in which our denomination connects with the broader family tree of the Church and the ways that I as a leader can learn from the amazing leaders before me."
“As a professional youth pastor in the local church for over 25 years I seek to integrate the practical with the theological in my teaching and interactions with all our students.”
