Application Questions
The application process includes several steps and may take some time to complete, so please plan accordingly.
- MNU APPLICATION
- Complete the MNU Professional & Graduate Studies application first. It is very brief.
- NursingCAS APPLICATION
The MNU application will provide a link to the NursingCAS (NCAS) website where potential students complete a second application. NursingCAS is a third party that manages nursing school applications.
- Official transcripts* from all colleges/universities must be sent to NursingCAS where they will be centrally verified.
- Do I have to complete the manual transcript entry section of the NursingCAS application even though I am having official transcripts sent? YES. NursingCAS will use the information from this section of the application and your official transcripts to complete the verification process before your file can be reviewed for possible acceptance.
- A 500 word (maximum) personal statement (essay) will be written in the personal statement section in NursingCAS or attached as an additional upload. The theme is “Why Nursing.” You may include future plans, your inspiration to become a nurse, and a brief explanation of issues, such as having to retake a class.
- A minimum of two (2) professional references will be submitted through NursingCAS**
*International transcripts must be evaluated by an NACES agency and evaluations sent to Nursing CAS before application deadline.
**Professional references are individuals who can comment on your professional and personal skills, including supervisors, managers, employers or professors. No relatives, please.
NursingCAS Support: (617) 612-2880 or nursingcasinfo@nursingcas.org.
MNU has two ABSN starts (cohorts) each year; FALL (August) and Spring (March)
FALL COHORT
Application is typically available in NursingCAS: December 1 – July 31
Applicants will typically be reviewed starting in March for the August start
SPRING COHORT
Application is typically available: June 1 – January 31
Spring applicants will typically be reviewed starting in September for the March start.
- The time it takes for NursingCAS to verify your transcripts once your application has been submitted and all official transcripts are received can vary. Typically it takes three to four weeks.
- If it has been four weeks since you submitted your NursingCAS application and your transcripts have not been verified – you should contact NursingCAS to ensure your application is complete.
- It is possible your application may not be COMPLETE. First, check with NursingCAS to ensure all supporting application documentation (references, essay) has been received.
- Have you submitted an application to MNU? Apply here.
- If you have confirmed with NursingCAS that your application is both COMPLETE, and VERIFIED, it may be that MNU has not started to review applications yet, or has simply not had a chance to review your application. See application cycles above for more information.
Your chosen references will be emailed a form through the NursingCAS application, so you will not need to obtain written documents yourself. With the NursingCAS references, you will want to enter the name, occupation and email address of the individuals you are using as references.
Please make sure that the email address you use is correct, and one that your references will check regularly, to ensure they receive the recommendation form in a timely fashion.
Here are some sample occupation titles, “Manager”, “Professor”, or “Supervisor”. An email will go to the people you identify, with log-in information. Each will enter their ratings, and they may also upload a letter of recommendation.
All official transcripts need to be sent to NursingCAS for verification. If you send the official transcripts to MNU, you will still need to send official transcripts to NursingCAS. While unofficial transcripts may be sent to MNU for unofficial review (to give applicants the best possible idea of whether they have any remaining prerequisites to complete), it is not recommended that you send your official transcripts to MNU as they cannot be forwarded to NursingCAS.
Yes. NursingCAS will use this information as part of the verification process.
Once your application has been verified by NursingCAS, it may take a couple of months (depending on where we are in the application cycle) before you hear back regarding your application status. A letter will be mailed to inform you of the Admission Committee’s decision. Please make sure all your contact information is up-to-date and accurate in NursingCAS to ensure we can reach you.
At times, students have not been able to start the program at the time when classes start for the cohort of students. You can contact the Admissions Department to request a delayed program start date. The details are outlined in our Admission Deferral Policy. If this applies to you, please review the detailed policy and process for deferring your start in our program.
