MNU Events

Art & Faith

Join us for a rotating art gallery during the 2018-2019 academic year. Local Christian visual artists will display their works and give an artist talk in the library. These events are free and open to all in the university and the broader community.

Aug-Sept Artist: Julia Otterness

Julia Otterness, founder of Genesis 1-1 Fine Arts, a ministry of evangelism through fine arts, will display her painting series depicting the 7 Days of Creation. Julia's paintings will be displayed during the months of August and September. She will give an artist talk in the Mabee Library on August 30th from 7:00-8:00 pm.

Artist Talk Topic: Genesis 1:1 Fine Art is about creating fine art through the One who created Creativity. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." God created everything, including people, and gave us the ability to be creative!

My desire for Genesis 1:1 is to share the love of Jesus through fine art. If we are created in HIS image and HE is the creator of creativity, then let us encourage artists to seek God for creativity and for artists to share their experiences of worship with other Christian artists and the fine arts community as a whole.

About the Artist: I love to paint plants, animals, sea creatures, and all the things in nature; through that, I always find a deep appreciation and amazement for the beautiful things in this world. My primary media is acrylic paint on canvas with some occasional oil and pastels. However, God is always giving me desires for all of the traditional drawing media. To me, painting and drawing is a place of worship. It is a time where I find inspiration and communion with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
