MNU will offer a public health specialty in its Master of Science in Nursing program starting in August. Joining nursing education and healthcare administration, the specialty will allow students one of three emphases; school nurse, occupational health and infectious disease control. MNU’s four home football games will be played at Olathe District Activity Center (ODAC), 20925 W. 159th St., Olathe, Kan., this year. Earlier this summer the university closed Pioneer Stadium due to safety concerns after consultation with a structural engineer. Plans are underway for the removal of the current stadium complex, as well as the construction of the new facilities and related costs. ...

MidAmerica Nazarene University’s Fishing Club is headed to the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wis., July 28 for the fourth and final stop of the National Guard FLW College Fishing Central Conference tour. Forty college teams will be competing for a top award of $5,000 and a berth in the Central Conference Championship tournament. MNU’s team of Jacob Johnson, Lenexa, Kan., and Ryan Rockwell, Des Moines, Iowa, will be challenged by the big river....

While residential students are gone over the summer, the MNU campus is still buzzing with activity. This summer MNU will host and conduct about a dozen events, including ministry conferences, reunions, and sports camps, on its centrally located Olathe campus. Faculty and staff have welcomed hundreds of visitors for the various gatherings....

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has appointed and commissioned Dr. Todd Frye, professor of counseling at MidAmerica Nazarene University, to the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB), for the discipline of professional counseling. The BSRB is comprised of licensed behavioral science professionals and four public citizens all on appointment by the Governor....

  MidAmerica Nazarene University alumnus Dennis Burkett, Jr. recently received the 2011 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Burkett completed his Master of Education in Instructional Technology at MNU, and presently teaches chemistry at Olathe South High School, a position he has held for the past seven years. In 2007, Burkett was also received the Kansas Horizon Award, which recognizes outstanding first-year teachers....

It’s July and it’s hot in Kansas. It must be time for Mark Woods Rock Orchestra Camp. Since 2010 several hundred teen and adult musicians and music teachers have made MNU their home for a week of intensive instruction and practice at the camp held in Bell Cultural Events Center each July. Since it is cool in Bell Center, consider attending a concert from these talented artists....
