More than 400 MNU students, faculty, staff and community members participated in Blaze Prayer Walk Aug. 30. President David Spittal, students and others lead prayers for God’s blessing on the new school year as the crowd walked the campus. Sean Middleton, 23-year-old soccer forward for the Pioneers, who passed away after a motorcycle accident July 25, was remembered at Wednesday’s men’s soccer game vs. Tabor College. MNU athletes from all MNU sports came out to support Sean’s family with a special tribute. About 400 fans attended to show their support. Photos from the tribute below. Kansas City Northland residents looking for counseling services now have a new, affordable option for care in their area. MidAmerica Nazarene University’s Master of Arts in Counseling program recently opened the Northland Community Counseling Center (NCCC). NCCC, like its counterpart counseling and play therapy center at MNU’s Olathe campus, serves local residents as well as university students, and uses a sliding scale fee system to make services affordable....

MidAmerica Nazarene University is launching a new Master of Education in Adaptive Special Education this month. In as few as 18 months, the program prepares teachers to meet the learning and behavioral needs all students, including those with mild to moderate disabilities. Courses will meet once a week on MNU’s Olathe campus. The program enables candidates to earn an endorsement in elementary (K-6), middle school (5-8), high school (9-12), or K-12 instruction....

Two Olathe high school graduates are the proud inaugural recipients of MNU’s Coones Family Memorial Scholarship, a $500 award that the students can apply to books or tuition at MNU. Mikaela Harris (Olathe South, 2012) is the 2011 recipient and Nathan Brewer (Olathe North, 2012) is the 2012 recipient. They were chosen for the scholarship from essays they wrote about their educational and career goals. Both hope to be youth ministers....
