Alum Awarded 2015 Kansas Horizon Award

Jamie Droegemeier of Spring Hill Middle School is one of six teachers from Johnson County who won the Kansas Department of Education's 2015 Horizon Award which honors exemplary first-year teachers. Droegemeier teaches at Spring Hill Middle School and is unusual as first-year teachers go. He's a career changer after 14 years in accounting. Droegemeier completed his certification to teach at MNU in fall 2013.

Now he's back in school completing a Master of Education at MNU. From an article in The Olathe News by Sara Beane, Droegemeier expressed his amazement at being chosen for the award.

"I am humbled by how many first-year educators there are int he state of Kansas and to be one of that small number to be selected," Droegemeier said. "I felt all along that this was the right move for me and this award has reinforced that."
