Fulbright Scholar and Naval Reserve Training Director Speak at MNU

MidAmerica Nazarene University will host presentations by Fulbright Scholar Randall Stephens, PhD, and National Director of Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Carla Jill Stein, EdD, on Friday, October 21 at 2 p.m. in Bell Cultural Events Center, during Communiversity. Communiversity is a free lecture series designed to provide access to university alumni of note, and to promote innovation and scholarship. It is held during MNU Homecoming each year and the public is invited to attend.

Stephens, a 1995 alumnus of MNU, is associate professor of history and chair of the history department at Eastern Nazarene College, in Quincy, Mass. Stephens also edits the history magazine Historically Speaking and is associate editor of Fides et Historia a scholarly journal of the Conference on Faith and History. He will speak from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

As a 2012 Roving Fulbright Scholar Stephens will travel in Norway beginning in November, to lecture to Upper Secondary Schools on a variety of historical topics.

Dr. Stein, a 1977 graduate of MNU, leads staff and programs for the Navy and Marine Corps NROTC involving more than 170 colleges and universities in 34 states and the District of Columbia. A frequent speaker, she conducts seminars and workshops for civic, religious and educational organizations. She and her husband, retired Capt. John H. Stein Jr. reside in Pensacola, Fla. Stein will speak from 2 to 3 p.m.

Drs. Stein and Stephens will receive the alumnae and alumnus of the year awards from MNU at a special Homecoming Chapel service at MNU on October 21 at 10 a.m. at College Church of the Nazarene. MNU Chapel services are also open to the public.
