Giving Tuesday is Nov. 29 at MNU

Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving fueled by social media and the collective support of millions, is Nov. 29. This year MNU will participate in the philanthropic movement now in its fifth year. The goal is to reach 500 donations that day. Celebrated on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable giving season when many people start planning their holiday and year-end giving. Last year, more than 115,000 colleges, universities and nonprofits participated raising a total of $116 million for their causes. All funds raised through MNU Giving Tuesday will be designated for student scholarships, student mission trips, athletic teams, or a special project.

The excitement of Giving Tuesday is like other social media events in that it is fun to watch the collective support of friends, family and strangers come together to support a worthy cause. Director of Annual Giving Pete Brumbaugh says watching the needle move on special projects and sharing the progress with others is an attractive aspect of the day.

“It’s easy,” Brumbaugh says. “Most gifts can be given online with a credit or debit card. Once you give, MNU provides tools for you to advocate for MNU Giving Tuesday and encourage others to give through a variety of social media channels. Most importantly, it’s impactful. Every gift makes a difference.”

Throughout the day, students, faculty and staff will be sharing stories about the impact donors are making with their gifts on social media and in emails to supporters. Constituents can choose from several giving opportunities—from student scholarships and student mission trips to athletic team support, hands-on learning opportunities for students, and classroom technology.

Donors can support MNU Giving Tuesday by giving a secure donation online at All gifts secured on Nov. 29 will count toward the total goal.
