Jenkins Named HAAC SID of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Heart of America Athletic Conference has announced that Chad Jenkins, sports information director at MidAmerica Nazarene University, has been named the 2nd Annual Dave Fillmore SID of the Year Award winner. The award was selected by the conference sports information directors.

In order to honor its current sports information professionals, the conference introduced the Dave Fillmore Award last year, named after the first SID at Evangel University in 1977 as well as the league's sports information director from 1988-2003. Fillmore passed away on December 21, 2008, but not before being inducted into the Evangel Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. He also won the Clarence "Ike" Pearson Award in 1999, the highest honor bestowed upon sports information directors in the NAIA.

"I am honored to receive an award named after such a respected SID like David Fillmore," said Jenkins. "I met him only a few times early in my career, but he still made an impact. A big thanks goes to the SIDs in the Heart, who are among the best in the NAIA and have pushed me to improve every year. I thank the coaches and staff at MNU who make this job easier, the athletes who make game day a joy to cover, and Director of Athletics Kevin Steele, who always gives full support and encouragement."

Jenkins completed his eighth season as the MNU sports information director in 2014-15, starting his employment with the university in the Fall of 2007. A graduate of Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind., he is responsible for the release of all information regarding MNU's 15 intercollegiate athletic programs, coordinating media relations and broadcasting of athletic events.

"We are extremely delighted to have Chad chosen as the Heart SID of the Year," said MNU Director of Athletics Kevin Steele. "He has done so much for our program, and with very little tangible help. His work with our video streaming has been superb and he continues to be student-athlete driven. Indeed, we are proud."

Jenkins has been at the forefront of internet video streaming production at MNU, creating high-quality broadcasts for MNU football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, and baseball in high definition. He has also increased MNU's social media visibility with the successful use of twitter, facebook and instagram.

"The sports information directors in the conference recognize the outstanding quality of work that comes from MNU and are proud to have Chad selected for this award," said Eric Montgomery, the Heart of America Athletic Conference Director of Communications. "He is well-respected by all of his peers for his work and is valued for his willingness to go above and beyond to support his colleagues."

Jenkins will represent the conference in the voting for the NAIA SID of the Year, an award that will be announced in the Fall of 2015.
