President David J. Spittal announced today that MidAmerica Nazarene University will reopen campus for business, activities and operations on June 29 and on August 25, all in-person classes and programs will resume. As employees and students are welcomed back to campus, appropriate health, hygiene and operational adjustments will be taken to promote the safety and welfare of the campus community.

“I am eagerly anticipating the renewed vitality and energy as our students return to campus in August and join our professional and graduate students for a great new year,” Spittal says. “Our outlook is positive, and we are eagerly looking forward to the 20-21 academic year.”

Procedures and plans for reopening campus are coordinated by an operational task force that continues to review details for the return of students on campus and the implementation of public health recommendations in coordination with local officials. These plans and provisions will be in place when classes and university activities resume. Constituents of the university will continue to be informed as plans are finalized.

In March, MNU initiated safeguards and closed the campus to all but essential personnel and continued to provide housing for a few students who were stranded due to travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The university has continued to follow public health recommendations with most employees working remotely and students taking classes online.

Jon Spence, associate vice president for facilities operations, heads the task force for reopening the campus. One of his goals is to provide constituents with pertinent information.

“We will push information to all of our communication channels so that students, parents, employees and others can learn more about the precautions and procedures that will be in place when MNU opens,” Spence says.
