MNU is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a 2018 Best Colleges Regional Midwest, in a list published last month. MNU ranked 75th (tie) out of 173 schools on the Midwest list which also includes Baker University, Ottawa University, Olivet Nazarene University and Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
According to the publication’s web site, colleges and universities are first grouped into the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education's Basic Classification 2015 Update, which is the most widely accepted classification system in higher education.
“U.S. News collapses 12 of the Carnegie categories into four: National Universities, National Liberal Arts Colleges, Regional Universities and Regional Colleges. The Regional Universities and Regional Colleges are placed into one of four geographic categories: North, South, Midwest and West.”
The publication’s ranking methodology places a heavy emphasis on outcomes such as retention and graduation rates, followed by academic reputation. Specifically, this ranking pertains to the university’s traditional undergraduate programs.
“We are delighted to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” says Dr. Mary Jones, provost. “This validates our continued pursuit of academic excellence through continued investments in teaching and learning.”
