PrayerWalk 2014

August 20, 2014

On Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, MNU Associated Student Government invites the campus and community to gather together for PrayerWalk 2014, an evening of focused prayer. Faculty, staff and students along with trustees, alumni, friends and area churches are encouraged to join the campus community to walk the boundaries of the campus to pray for God’s guidance, protection and blessings for all aspects of the university.

The PrayerWalk begins at the Harvest Prayer Sculpture on the campus green at 8 p.m. and proceeds through campus concluding at College Church of the Nazarene for a closing time of community prayer. Those unable to participate in the walk itself are invited to gather in the College Church sanctuary at 8:15 p.m. to pray and to participate in closing prayers.

Prayer walking was common to the early church as a way for Christians to gather and reaffirm their commitment to God’s purposes and to focus on all segments of their community. Often congregations would circle their towns and ask God to be present in the city and in the lives of the people. This practice was suggested in Genesis 14:17 where the Lord said to Abraham, “Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.” Then Abraham departed, walked the land and built an altar to the Lord.

MNU President Dr. David Spittal says the prayer walk is a student-led event that provides an opportunity for community members, alumni, and other friends of the university to join the campus community for this evening of prayer.
